Myki Card Victoria - Can I Get A Refund on The Cost of Card?

I got two myki cards which I bought on my travels. Is it possible to return them and get $6 deposit per card?

Edit:
Thanks all for the reply, for anyone else, next time when you in Melbourne, don't buy the stupid card, you could simply activate it via Google pay/ Apple Pay as a paypass.

  • Unfortunately, No. Leave one at home and that is another $6/$3. I have a collection.

  • No. It sucks.

  • If you have a balance and an Australian bank account you can get that balance refunded https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/myki#refund-reimburse

Not really a deposit then is it, if it’s not refundable?

    the $6 isn't a "deposit", it's a "purchase" of the card

I wish you could get a refund on their cards because I have a stack of them at home. I don't live in Melbourne so I have had to buy one each time I go there since I always forget to bring it and my wallet has no room for it. It should really be a free NFC app these days.

    • i know it's not the same thing as a seperate myki app, but you're able to use myki with google pay now. the annoying bit is that you can't link an existing card. you have to pay $6 for a google pay myki card, but then you won't have to worry about forgetting the card again

      • Huh? So you still have to pay a $6 purchase fee for a mobile myki?

No. Not sure what bigdumbhead is on about.

          • @kerfuffle: Thanks. Will check that out next time i'm in Melbourne.
Now if only you could get refunded on the $6 deposit. Why are public transport cards in this country so stupid? Opal has no deposit and can go negative, myki has a non-refundable deposit…

            • @TurnipHead: Could be worse. WA charges $10 for their SmartRider or whatever it's called.

        • yeah got the $6 mixed up with google pay and physical myki, but from what I've seen you have to deposit $10 into your google pay myki card to get it set up

            @[Deactivated]:

deposit $10 into your google pay myki card to get it set up

How else do you expect to use mobile myki otherwise? The $10 is for your fares.

            • @kerfuffle: just letting people know. what if they only need to use the myki card once? then they've had to load $10 for a $4.50 fare.

              • @[Deactivated]: Walk, catch a taxi or Uber. Who only uses a myki just once?

                • @kerfuffle: People who don't live in Melbourne whom are forced to pay for myki.

                • @kerfuffle: I'm sure there have been a lot of people who have only needed to use myki once, for whatever reason. i was just trying to let people know that myki with google pay needs a $10 deposit. not sure why you're trying to start a debate with me about the uses of myki cards

  • Is mobile myki on Apple Pay now? Thought it was just GPay only.

  • Whoever got the contract to sell the cards got themselves a nice pay day scamming millions of people.

One myki sold for every Victorian
By Paris Cowan on Sep 20, 2013 9:01AM

More than 5.7 million myki cards had been issued to customers as of June 2013, which is a touch over the 5.68 million Victorians the Australian Bureau of Statistics recorded as living in the state at its last count.

    • And card probably cost like 20c lol

  • There use to be a secondhand market for used Myki cards amongst travellers (i.e. you might be able to recover some of the card purchase costs) on Gumtree etc but the introduction of mobile Myki and the lack tourists might have killed that.
