Interesting but looks complicated watching the Tutorial….

It is. Only recommended for a lockdown. Partner and I attempted and got nowhere in 30 minutes and gave up.

That’s a hard pass then for me! Thanks

A different perspective - this is a light to medium weight game that is actually fairly easy to learn and there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube (check Watch It Played). 10-15 mins to learn.

The game has a lot of luck involved though, so you need to accept that you're not going to win every game - but that's good for some!

@hybridex: Agreed, definitely not a difficult game. My wife who won't touch Catan etc, loves Wingspan and Ticket To Ride.

Check out a youtube tutorial dude https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgDgcLI2B0U&t=355s

Is simple once you learn it. A good one for those that like engine building games

    • +3

It's pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. You'll find (if you're interested in learning more board games) that many share elements with eachother, and the more games you learn, the faster it is to learn them. Wingspan would be in the light-medium complexity range.

    • +1

There’s really only 3 actions you can do on a turn. The hardest part is learning what each of the card effects are, which a lot of the cards do a good job at explaining. It’s quite a light game with a lot of RNG but one of our faves due to the art style, theme and replayability.

    • The game is not complicated to learn. My daughter learnt the game when she was 9 years old.

    • +1

This is an excellent introduction to board gaming. The rules are simple enough to learn, and you can get the gist from Youtube videos. But after you get the rules down, the combinations and card effects make things interesting. If this is your first go at board gaming, then you'll want to invest a bit of time to get into it. But if you have some people you can learn and play with, then I'd definitely recommend it.

…And this is a good price.

  • Thanks ! got one

  • Our favourite family game.

  • Great game! Nice find OP

For those thinking of buying, my biggest deterrent of Wingspan is it’s a solitaire style game, meaning there’s no player interaction. So it’s great if you want to sit down with others and do something but not interact at all, but if you want to play a game together, then this is not the game you want.

    Good deal though.

    • +1

There is a little bit of player interaction, but it's fairly indirect.

    Cheers, bought op.

Fyi there are quite a few games at good prices. Eg 7 wonders duel, gloomhaven jaws, and spirit island

  • Got this game recently and can attest that it takes a while to get your head around and then it is very addictive!

What size is this OLED tv?

    • +1

The wing length of an American eagle, approximately.

For a bit of added fun you can download the Wingsong app, open the app and hold the camera above any of the bird cards and it will play you that particular birds sound. Due to some of the birds being endangered, their songs won’t play, that way hunters cannot use the sounds to attract them.
Also for the people saying it was hard to learn, the Swift pack included in this version of Wingspan is there to teach you how to play the game.

  • +1

Any more than 2 dice… its complicated

  • Scored before they went out of stock, thanks OP. Have heard some rave reviews about this game.

  • Its a good game, i played it once. If you are new to boardgames, hard pass. If you have most of the other classics (catan, hanabi, Camel cup, resistance, etc) this is a great mid-weight game.

  • +1

Is this game competitive in the sense that trying to maximise your points actively interferes with your opponent? Or more about skill and strategy in building your own success. Eg. In the game Azul you collect tiles to make points and you can force your opponent to collect bad tiles or fail to win points (which my wife gets cranky about when I steal her tiles :) - is wingspan anything like that?

    • +1

Less competitive than Azul. As someone said in another comment (must be in the other deal), but similar in style to a solitaire type setup with some competitive parts. It's mainly individual and there are competitive components if you want to make it that way.
