What Do You Use Your VR Headset for?

I am thinking of buying a VR headset, but not too sure which one to go for.

Do you own one? If so, which one and what do you use it for?

Own a PSVR for gaming. Awaiting PSVR2 next year. Still think it's gimmicky though.

Go to a VR cafe and try it out to see if it's what you were expecting or not.

  • I've owned Oculus DK2, Oculus Rift S, Oculus Quest 2, HP Reverb 1 and HP Reverb 2. Currently only have Oculus Quest 2 and HP Reverb 2.

What platform are you intending to VR on? Console, PC or standalone?

    • Would be using primarily on PC and may be on Switch.

        Switch doesn't support VR.

What GPU is on your PC?

Where Quest 2 is good is that it's a standalone unit. Where Reverb and other PC VR heavily rely on the PC's GPU and needing a good one at that.

PC VR has much more content available than (say) Quest, but Quest can be used with PC too - it's just not as clear as a dedicated PC VR headset.

Quest is definitely a lot less mucking about with cables and setup, it just boots straight up and works.

I've owned an Oculus Quest 2 for about a month now. I tried out a few different things when I first bought it, but the only 2 things that have really kept my attention are Eleven Table Tennis and Walkabout Mini Golf. I tried out watching a Netflix show on it, and although it does work, I'd rather just watch it on a TV / computer monitor.

I've tried browsing the web on it, and that also didn't stick around much either.

I think my usage of the Oculus Quest will mostly be for physical activities. I don't particularly enjoy gaming, but I love table tennis in real life and wish I could play it more and that's what this headset has done.

Shooting games are a common gametype and maybe that's something I'll look into, but I get frustrated enough with those just using a computer and I own a few that I never play.

In the future I'd like to get some more games like: Real Tennis and there's a golf game that is supposed to be really good. Space is a bit of an issue with Table Tennis and there is a solution (go outside) but I'm not too keen on that.

For the first 2 weeks of using the headset I did get a bit of eye pain, but that's settled down and I don't experience any sort of motion sickness, the headset is good enough with keeping up with my movement.

    • I would also like to mention that games do look very basic, but I've found that doesn't matter if the gameplay is engaging enough.

The minigolf floor textures in particular drives me crazy, I wish the floor was more textured.

I just voted what i would use it for if i have one

  • Flight sims. DCS and XP11. Also works in MSF2020 but got bored. Flying flat screen takes such a massive hit on immersion that i won't go back.

Have a Reverb and runs well enough.

  • Pimax 5K used primarily for driving / flying simulations…
