Aus sim card for receiving SMS

As most bank, mygov, etc are using sms authentication. Is there any sim card that can receive international sms while I am overseas for couple of months?

Amaysim or Aldi mobile cheapest options.
    I personally use Amaysim.

    • Does it cost OP to receive SMS when overseas?

You would never be charged for receiving an sms because you can't control whether or not you receive a message or not (whereas you can choose whether to answer an incoming call or not).

For international ones, best to go with a major provider like Telstra/vodafone/optus themselves instead of MVNO's

If in australia only then just buy whatever is cheapest usually amaysim, $5 aldi kit, Vodafone on sale, or woolies as extra for discount on shopping too, even optus at times only $10 or less. All these ones are good in aus with expiry on at least 6 months

    • Just gotta make sure international roaming is available

I've been on Amaysim for a few years never had any issues receiving SMS overseas for OPs purpose.

Thanks. It seems amaysim and aldi mobile with PAYG plan is the best options to just receive SMS.

I have checked catch mobile and belong, and they don't offer international roaming.

Big telco companies are too expensive.

Amaysim has been working well for me over the years with their PAYG plan. Only thing to remember is to activate the plan before travelling.

    • And divert calls to voicemail before you leave, otherwise you'll be charged $2/minute ($1 for receiving the call and $1 for the divert to voicemail)

      • Just don't top up the account. It's a prepaid service so if they can't charge anything if there's no credit to be deducted. Having said that, that'd probably also mean that any incoming calls will just get terminated instead of being transferred to your VM, which you wouldn't want to pay to listen to while you're overseas anyway.

What I'd normally do when I went overseas for anything more than a few days (back in the pre-COVID time) is that I'd change my VM greeting to tell the caller that I'm out of the country (this part is optional) and redirect them to sending me an email or sms instead of leaving a VM.
