Help Me Finish My OzBargain Priced PC

In true ozbargain fashion I began piecing together a super budget PC but having spent the past 3 months collecting deals on here have ended up with more then I expected and am in the process of finishing it off.

I have $500 give or take still to play with. Am thinking a higher end SSD for the operating system would make the system better and am unsure if/what else would be needed.

First build in over 10 years, will be used for some light gaming, entertainment and general use.

***edit : forgot to add the GPU in list lol **

$500 on a gpu won't go very far in this day and age.
Maybe look for a second hand RTX 2060/70?

Does depend what you play - many popular MMOs or FPSs (LoL, CS:GO, Fortnite etc.) will run perfectly fine with a second hand $500 card.

Going high-max settings on more intensive titles like Cyberpunk or Alyx will of course struggle a bit though.

Apparently second hand 2070 are still going for close to 1k on eBay/Marketplace.

If you don't already have a GPU (maybe you forgot to list it), you already have an SSD so don't bother upgrading that. Can probably find a half-decent RX card on Gumtree or FB Marketplace for under $500. Got 2 perfectly working RX 570 and 580 cards for ~$350 total on Gumtree. Sold the 580 and am using the 570, which is a perfectly capable card that can run most games on decent settings (eg. RDR2 High everything, over 60fps in 99% of scenes).

  • $500 will not be enough for a decent GPU ($300 to $400) and a higher end SSD (Samsung 980 pro).

The biggest problem with be the GPU as the two stores I usually buy from have cheap Nvidia cards sub $200 or ones costing $500 or more with none between $200 and $450….. They both only have $600+ AMD cards.

    Good luck.

  • OP - what games do you play/want to play? You don't need a beastly GPU if you're playing relatively low-spec games.

Save another $250 and get a RX 6600 or higher if you can afford it.
Basically get as much money together for a GPU as you can.

Now is probably the worst time to buy a gpu.

i agree with posters above, see if you can get a decent 2nd hand one.

You probably should have got the 5600G instead of the 5600x CPU. That way you could have done the light gaming without a GPU.
Not too late, 5600G's are $350 at the moment, which is probably less than what you could sell a brand new 5600x for..

Oops forgot to add the GPU in specs! lol

Sounds like you've finished the computer then
Take the $500 and put it towards your energy bill while mining a sh1t tonne of ethereum.

  • I have exact CPU & RAM :D

Your system looks complete already, don't really need any upgrades.

WD Black SN850 or Crucial P5 plus might be decent boot drive upgrade.
