Looking for Recommendations for Audio to Pair with LG C1 - First Time Buyer

As many OZB users, I was sold on the LG C1 and picked one up a couple of months ago and have been loving it as my first TV upgrade in a decade, but feel I really need to upgrade the audio.

Currently have:
65" LG C1
PS5
Nivdia Shield TV Pro

I live in a smallish apartment, so the size of the room is about 4.5m x 4.5m and sit about 2.5m from the TV. Mostly used for films and gaming.

I currently feel totally overwhelmed trying to do research on what to buy audio wise. I've never had any audio set up or even understand the full complexities and nuances, definitely not an audiophile. I use Spotify for music and think WH-1000XM3's are the most amazing things ever if that's a barometer of where I'm at.

What would be the best choice? Soundbar + sub? a home theater system like this? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/632377

Open to suggestions, budget is the big one I suppose, I struggle to justify spending a lot on it in the sense at the moment I don't know what I'm missing out on, and in an apartment I can't exactly blast sound anyway. I guess I'm thinking sub $400 but could probably be convinced otherwise.

Cheers,

I've just started looking at an HW-Q600A. Right around that price range.

Call me ancient, but I preferred to stick with a traditional 5.1 setup. I've got the entry level Yamaha system that does the rounds here, goes for around $400.

At that price, you'd probably be competing with soundbars 2-3x as expensive - if you can deal with the physical setup, I'd go this route.

That being said, some of the higher end soundbars are really legit… Just $$$

Edit: just realised you posted the Yamaha system I have. I can vouch for it. I have it set up with the C1 and Shield Pro.

    • Good to know about that Yamaha YHT-1840 and that it works well for you and have similar set up in terms of TV/Shield pro! Cheers!

  • Does a soundbar work with this tv if you dont have the space in the tv unit?>

The tv sits so low and noticed that most bars height covers the bottom of the tv. I was looking at some towers>?

    I will follow this thread:)

    • Most non LG soundbars are too high and will cover a little bit of the bottom of the TV if you don't wall mount it. (Samsung soundbars all fall under this case)

    • I've just upgraded from a Samsung QLED that sat quite high on the stand to the C1 and having this exact problem. But I've just bought a pine step from Bunnings I'm going to set the tv on that's the exact right height to raise it above the sound bar.

  • 2k sound system?
