Anyone with an Oura Ring?

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has an Oura ring and what's their experience?

Was thinking about purchasing one if I can end up getting a gen 1 or gen 2 account to get the lifetime subscription.

Not going to pay 6 USD a month for life for the new users.

Would like to know if you recommend it and it's worth it or the ring is just hype.

Thank you

(Have read the reviews)

  • If you're not already, get familiar with DC Rainmaker's reviews. This guy is all over fitness equipment and definitely my go to in practically assessing the features of all this gear.

      Thank you kindly.

  • I've had an Oura for about a year and a half now.

I'm a sucker for biometrics and gadgets, I really liked it especially early on. I found the sleep tracking more accurate than my Galaxy watch and without Oura, I probably wouldn't have found out that I had mild sleep apnea for a few more years. Also really gave perspective on how much alcohol/late caffeine impacted my sleep.

I will say that I didn't really find the HRV stat incredibly useful. I don't know if it's because I have an autonomic nervous system disorder, but I spent a lot of time trying to get my HRV as high as possible and correlate it with how I felt physically, how rested I felt, etc, and I genuinely never saw a relationship. People also say that you can use it to "predict" illness a few days in advance, and I never saw my HRV drop or temperature go up until I was a day or two into cold/flu symptoms every time. Not really helpful there.

1.5 years in, the battery is significantly worse off. It lasts 2 nights at most now, I forget to wear it/charge it a lot now. I am going to try to get an RMA, but I see that the new gen only has a 1 year warranty which sucks. I've also heard their support is not great these days, so will see how I fare. I also just feel like after a year or so of wearing it, I already have a rough idea of how I've slept and what my stats would look like without opening the app, so I don't feel like I need more than a smartwatch for basic tracking anymore.

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts and review..are you happy for me to message you?

Do you think you'll get a gen 3?

      Shame about the battery.

      • Yeah, sure. Go ahead!

I don't think I'll go for the Gen 3, even without a subscription I don't think I could justify it. I don't like their move to subscription model (even if I wouldn't have to pay it, I don't think I should support it rn), and I just don't need daytime heart rate tracking because I will always wear a smartwatch. It's not worth the battery life loss for that feature.

If they RMA and give me a gen 3, I'd be glad to take it, but I'd honestly prefer another gen 2.

        • Thank you. You need to enable private messages in your settings first :)

Yeah agreed with the subscription model. I think in a year they will have to offer lifetime subscription offers and options..otherwise it's crazy.

I'd rather pay like $100aud to them for lifetime access than a stupid $6 USD monthly fee

re support, my gen2 died with 7 days warranty left
emailed on 4 Nov, no response
      just sent them a reminder

      • I'd heard their support was quite good in the past, I don't know if it's because of Gen 3 and such but yeah I've heard the response times are really long now. I've been procrastinating sending my email.
Hopefully you hear something back soon.

        • they replaced my Gen2 with Gen3 and said they'd apply lifetime subscription for free
you'd lose features with new model unless you purchase the subscription

mine says 180 day trial so will have to contact them about that, 3 month wait was worth it 😊

  • thanks guys i decided to buy one

Only cost $400 AUD with delivery - what a steal!

(sarcasm hahah). Better be good, thanks for everyones recommendations.

    • Received it yet?

      • Hey man I sure did. Got it a few days ago

Pretty happy with it. Just debating if I should go down from size 9 to size 8

        Did you have any questions

        • On a bit of a kick at the moment and just ordered a couple of Airofit Pros and might get these for the Mrs and me; we both sleep terribly and are just looking to get some devices that may help matters. I've just booked myself into a sleep clinic too, so I am serious!

What was your main reason for getting one? Sleep tracking or exercise recovery?

@gasman70: Hmm good question..if you're in Melbourne happy to show you mine some time or take some photos / video haha

I only got it because another ozbargainer had lifetime subscription offer so I paid them $30 for it.

The gen 3 and above require a $6 USD monthly subscription now but lot of pushback so wouldn't be surprised if it gets cancelled or you can buy lifetime in a few months.

That's the main thing that put me off

Ring wise it's pretty good. Shows a lot of stats and is quite accurate.

May be going down a size tho as they said it's better to be tight than lose for accuracy.

            I got the silver one.

I also have the ring size kit if it helps you at all.

Also make sure you use a $50 off usd code..from a referral or boxing day etc..

It's a bit more accurate than Fitbit re sleep. One tip tho. Your fingers get a little bigger when sleeping so some people swap fingers just for sleeping. Where it's tight but not too tight in the morning. Anyway only used it for a week or two so far but happy.

I thought black night not suit my hand / skin colour as I'm quite pale

            • @AussieMark: Thanks for the response. I may just get one for the wife initially and see how she gets on with it.

If she’s impressed, I’ll get one too. These things are damn pricey though.

              • @gasman70: Hey mate yeah USD is pretty crazy at moment if you have USD use that otherwise it's $400 I paid for the cheapest with the 50 discount

Matte black I'm thinking about but 100 USD more
