Better Buy TV between Hisense, TCL and LG

Hi Friends,

I am on the hunt of a new 65" TV and browsing Black Friday Deals under 1200. I am more after a TV with good reviews on viewing quality on a daily basis. I am not after TVs for better gaming experience because I hardly use it for that purpose. I am using Chromecast too currently. So basic smart TV features will work too for me.

I am finding it difficult to choose from https://www.jbhifi.com.au/collections/tvs/tvs-led?page=1&hit….

If anyone has experience with these models and can share their reviews, would be great.

Especially, if I choose to go between #Hisense vs #TCL, Hisense are better ?

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lg-nano75-65-4k-ultra-hd-… — This one is #LG and reduced 500 to 1295. Is this really a good deal for this TV ? I am reading mixed review for this TV. But if gaming is not my preference, this is good buy ?

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-a7g-65-4k-uhd-led… — 995

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-u7g-65-4k-uled-sm… — 1195

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-p725-65-4k-uhd-led-an… — 995

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-au8000-65-crystal… — A bit higher in range at 1495

Or any other TVs that you think would fit my preference ?

Thanks in advance.

Always a good idea to try to get into a store and look at them inaction - most of the times they all look amazing but you might pickup something on these brands that you don’t like.

  • I used to own a Hisense 55 and when it died I hurriedly replaced it with a TCL 55 which I knew little about. If you love having Google and android in your life than the TCL is for you, but it's not for me. I hate it. The controller does not work very well and the TV is both difficult to turn on and to turn off. If you hold the button too long while turning it off it will pop up an additional window asking if you really want to turn it off - which is when I really want to kill it. Both TVs are 4K but the TCL is not nearly as intelligent as the Hisense.

    • I hate TCL as well. I have a 40inch S615 in the bedroom. TCL ran me around in circles only finally admitting they are aware of the fact that google assistant is unable to turn them off and they have no plans to fix the firmware. I will never buy TCL for a main/lounge room TV. Even though the hardware seems good enough to me for the price point.

  • U7G is the only one of those that has Full Array Local Dimming which theoretically should give it the best blacks out of that bunch. Not a lot of people like the VIDAA interface but you can always pair it with a Chromecast with Google TV if you don't like it.

  • TCL

  • I have a TCL, which was purchased in 2018. I overlooked the Hisense and LG because TCL was the only with Andorid TV and tbh the best app compatibility.
Motherboard died roughly 2 years in and replaced under warranty, but other than that a 4k HDR tv for $800 was a decent deal back then so not complaining.

IMHO in the $600-$1500 price range the Hisense/TCL have the market pretty well captured with terrific value for money.
Above that and i'd be exploring options with the LG's who do upper mid range better, although TCL and HIsense are rapidly catching up.

    LG > Hisense > …………………………… > TCL

  • I’ve been waiting for my LG LCD to die after 12 years but this thing is not showing any signs of giving up yet. It also has the original 80gb hard drive.

I’ve been researching the lower end LG, TCL and Hisense for a while, but just yesterday decided to buy the Phillips after seeing it for such a low price.
It has Ambilight ( Phillips is still the only manufacturer to have this feature) It’s running proprietary SAPHI OS which is not nearly as good as android but I have my Vodaphone Android box as a workaround, and $400 cheaper than the android version. https://www.itvsn.com.au/product/071654?source=googleps&affi…

  • Thanks guys. so there is mix of opinions for Hisense and TCL. Does that LG deal seems to be good with 500 reduction in price ? Any personal experience on that one?

  • I am planning to go to store and see these 2 side by side https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-a7g-65-4k-uhd-led… and https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-u7g-65-4k-uled-sm…. Should I pay 200 more for U7G which gives me access to Full Array and Quantum Dots or they are won't make much diff if gaming is not my thing ? Appreciate response. I might just close the deal over the weekend.

  • I once considered getting Hisense 65", due to the reviews on here. But as soon as I got in store and was able to compare Hisense and other bigger names side by side (LG, Sony, Samsung), Hisense was 100% not considered anymore.

    • Oh.. what are the points not in favour ? will help me decide too. thanks.

      • Mainly picture quality. It just didn't look that great (imo) compared to others.
I recommend you have a look instore, it may or not may be a big deal for you, but it was for us.
