  • Thanks got one, is it good?

  • Anyone actually try this before? I am intrigued.

Yep. I bought one on sale from the last boozebud flash sale a couple of months back. Its quite a nice drop! I was expecting something quite basic and a little bland, but it has a nice 'pear' flavour to it that I wasn't expecting. The 'IPA' thing is not something that I'd say is a noticeable characteristic, but I'm sure there are some IPA fans out there that might catch some nuance..

Either way - whisky-snobbery aside - if this is circa $90 or less then its a good buy in my opinion. Quality single malt whisky that has a polite flavour profile.

Above $90 - start looking at Hellyer's Road. Just my opinion of course.

We must of been drinking different whisky because it drank harsh and cheap to me. No real appreciable flavours or nose to the drop to be found

I think its more of a gimmick to suck in non whisky drinkers.

But then again whisky is very subjective.

        • Absolutely, its totally subjective.. Everyone has different tastes, but its fun to explore the flavours etc! Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it.
If you want something really smooth, try Chivas 'Royal Salute'. Its pricey these days, but its by far the smoothest whisky I've ever tasted. Very light flavour profile though. Otherwise you might enjoy Kavalan (Taiwanese whisky), or may of the Tasmanian whisky out there these days.

Back to the IPA - Its not an amazing drop, but I quite enjoy its mellow-ness, which is characteristic of Glenfiddich in my experience.. I've not had a Glenfiddich that I'd call 'bad' though, ever.. I find even their base 12y/o to be really quite drinkable, neat or with a chunk of ice. The main reason I don't buy it more often is that there's other single malts out there for similar bucks to try. But everything of theirs just seems very 'polite' to me. Nothing over the top, but also nothing completely amazing either. Even their 18y/o has a bit of a neutral/polite flavour profile..

If someone wants a great whisky for around $100 - Hellyer's Rd Pinot Noir cask. One of my faves of all time.

Otherwise if you're new to whisky, try some of these Glenfiddich drams, or Glenmorangie 10y/o is a great starter.

        • Thanks for saving me from my impulses.

          I generally like Spey side.
Recently I liked Glen Grant 15yo.

      • Thanks for the insight.. i was hoping for some more 'hoppy' notes… i guess I will have to try it!

        • +1

Yeah I was half hoping there'd be something a little hoppy or bitter in there, but I couldn't find much that made me think 'craft beer' or 'IPA'..

Starward make a Ginger beer cask finish whisky that has a bit of a ginger beer zest to it - great drop if you can find it!

      Nice find!

Thanks, but free shipping doesn't work for my country location at Boozebud :-(
They are no longer my bud q;-)

      • @newcastledog

"free shipping doesn't work for my country location at Boozebud :-( "

Same here (on the NSW North Coast).

I grab some of Boozebud's bargains via Amazon AU or eBay Plus and get free shipping that way. Order processing still quick and doesn't appear to have any delay (so far).

        Skol :)

    • You can also kinda get something similar to this during the eBay Shopback tonight:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284516991996

      $172.50 using AFBF25 and then 10% cashback off that = $155.25

Reduce that by whatever you can get with stacking discounted gift cards/Shopback challenges/etc.

      • AFBF25 doesnt work for me. Mine only shows BF15OFF which ends up being $195.50.

This worked great for me as I had stuff in cart already and couldnt make up the $39 for free delivery

        • +1

          Yeah, eBay Plus members only.

So I pulled the trigger on this last night…

          $230 -> $172.50 (25% off eBay Plus/Afterpay)
          $172.50 -> $155.25 (Shopback 10%, hopefully if it tracks)

Then I used a bunch of $10 gift cards from Shopback call it $8 off on $40 worth of gift cards
Paid another $125 using 3% cashback on eBay gift cards on Shopback ($3.25)
This purchase should qualify me for $10 gift card on $90 spend with eBay Plus
(I wasn't targeted for the $5 back on $30 challenge unfortunately)

So yeah if everything works out, call it $143 LOL. Have I made you proud, OzBargain?

          • @zzyss: Hahah you lost me halfway! But super impressed!

FFS people, it's just flavoured water!

  • just picked up two for $154.70 at boozebud, thanks!

  • +1

So. How does RRP ($130) differ from Regular price ($99.70)?

  • how to get waitlisted?

  • +1

"Waitlist"? Ah, the marketing term for pretend exclusivity. Sounds fancier than "out of stock" or "on back order".

Just got mine, I was on the waiting list! but just got the notification to order.

  • Wait list joined

  • had a few bottles, can't say it was impressive. Matter of taste in the end, however I'd go for glendronach any day, it does sometimes drop to that price.
