4k USB-C Monitor Advise

Hi guys,

I have an HP 13-ac060tu notebook which has only 2 usb-c and a regular usb port.

If I buy a 4k usb-c monitor, will I be able to get the 4k resolutions? I am asking this because my laptop is about 3 years old. My laptop's specs shows me that USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 2 (Thunderbolt, Data up to 40 GB/s, Power Delivery, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge); 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (HP Sleep and Charge)

Thanks a lot in advance.

  • The maximum supported resolution will depend on what generation of Thunderbolt you have. At the very least it should do 4k@60hz

    See the table at https://www.datapro.net/techinfo/thunderbolt_info.html#q26

    • I don't know what Thunderbolt version I have. The specs show that USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 2 (Thunderbolt, Data up to 40 GB/s)
I am not IT expert that's why I need help. Does mine support USB-C 4K Monitor?

        Q: Does mine support USB-C 4K Monitor?

        A: Yes.

        • thank you.

      • 3

        • Is it thunderbolt 3? That's good beacause it's almost 5 years old machine.

  • Yes it can support 4k@60Hz. Key part in that specification line is DP1.2 - meaning DisplayPort 1.2.

    • thank you.
