Wow I was very curious coming into this thread where a product labelled as toga roulette was going to take me. Mechanical pencil was definitely not on my bingo card.

  • Anyone else have issue returning faulty product to Amazon ? Seller is asking me to pay postage ( my first return to Amazon), never had issues returning products with eBay…

you should be able to lodge a return directly through Amazon and reason it as faulty, Amazon will cover return postage for that and you wouldn't need to deal with the seller themselves either.

  • How good is this pencil? Going into mech engineering next year hopefully and will probably need a nice mech pencil.

If you're doing a lot of writing then it may be your thing. The part that holds the lead rotates though (to keep the line width consistent), and for that to happen there's a bit of (radial?) play. The (axial?) force that is applied to the tip is converted into rotational energy which means there is travel in that direction as well.

Basically, get a fixed sleeve pencil if you want the best drafting experience
      Rotring 600 (hefty, mid bias)
      Staedtler 925 (medium, mid bias)
Pentel GraphGear 500 (light, front bias)
or even Pentel GraphGear 1000 which does not have a fixed sleeve but still feels fairly solid.

If you don't care about a little bit of play and you value the consistent line width, then Kuru Toga is fine too but won't be as effective across long lines as the mechanism needs you to lift between strokes to rotate the lead.

    • If you’re the kind of writer who lifts the pencil tip from the page a lot during writing then this pencil will be amazing.
I love my Toga Roulette - but the rotation doesn’t really work with my cursive writing style so it’s just a really nice mechanical pencil to me.
