Where and How to Get Best Price for Surface Pro 8?

I am in the market to get a Surface Pro 8 (i5 or i7 with 16G RAM and 256G SSD) (tablet only, already bought pen/type cover from Catch.com.au on black Friday with cash back bonus)

I am a Master student so I can get student price from Microsoft, and Microsoft student store is still eligible for CashReward cash back, so I can get:

i5 16G 256G model $1889.10 and 1.5% cash back = $1860.76, or
i7 16G 256G model $2159.10 and 1.5% cash back = $2126.71

So fellow OzBargainers, my question would be:

  1. is there any method to get it cheaper than price listed above?
  2. Since the only real difference between 11th gen i5 and i7 is L3 cache size and slightly higher clocks, they have the same core count, is it even worth it to buy the i7 model? as I won't be gaming on surface pro at all (desktop PC got me covered)

You can check with JB HIFI if they offer Microsoft's student discount. If they do, purchase discounted JB eGift cards from Suncorp or HCF (assuming you are a member) and use those cards to pay for your Surface Pro 8. Please check gift card T&Cs. Also note Suncorp rewards is changing into another program, so check out the instructions too.

    • Appreciated for the input! it would workout cheaper if JB HiFi allow student pricing.

    • Pretty much this, they only did $200 off for BF/CM, seems too recently released for any deep discounts

Thank you very much for this suggestion, I have pulled this off. I have purchased $1000 worth of gift cards via AAMI portal, and $500 via cashrewards, which gives me total of $57.5 off on top of the 1889.1 price tag, making it $1831.6

Could buy $350 more gift cards but bank detected "unusual transactions" and blocked me from buying more lol.

I am glad it all worked out for you. Good luck with your new Surface and good luck for your Masters too!

  • Microsoft trade in program too if you have an old device like an iPad sitting round that works but isn’t used any more
Eg an iPad Air 2 gets $360 trade in value if buying a surface pro 8 from MS store
The trade in process can be drawn out (took a while for my Xbox payment to come through) but an option you may not have considered

    • unfortunately I don't have an old device to trade over…

  • i7 integrated graphics is slightly faster (maybe 30%?) which is better for gaming but CPU power is pretty much the same. You can pick up a 500GB or 1TB ssd 2230 M.2 for <200$

    • I was going to buy a M.2 2230 SSD later myself since it's such an easy replacement and way cheaper than getting it from MS directly, plus I get a spare 250G m.2 as well.

as I said I am not planning to game on a mobile integrated GPU anyway, so GPU performance means very little to me. I probably just going for the i5 then..

      • I thought that the Surface Pros were glue together & upgrading the SSD was very difficult?

        • not with the newest model anymore, there is a small back tray that you can open very easily and swap with another M.2 2230 SSDs.

          • @OMGJL: Wow - that's great.

            • @Gaz1: I know right, that exactly why I wanted the smallest storage option

  • Managed to get the i5 16gb 256gb with keyboard and arc mouse for about $1.8K

JB offered $2,200 for the set. Used the 5% discount on current jb promo. And then paid with the ultimate gift cards 15% off currently at coles

    • $2200 is for the tablet only as far as I can see?

      • I mean in store, ask salesperson what price they could do for all three items, they offered $2.2k.

Took them up on the offer and scanned the promo barcode for 5% off, and paid the rest with the ultimate gift cards (currently 15% off)
