Should I Buy Honda CR-V 2019 Vti-S 2WD $27,000? - Was Repairable Write-off

Hi Guys,

What are your thoughts about this? Fair deal or definitely avoid?

Honda CR-V 2019 VTi-S 2WD
Odo 50k
Price 27k (negotiable- and will try to negotiate further)
Currently registered.
Seller doesn't have RWC but they will provide one.

Has the following write-offs and recent pics didn't show any damages. I haven't physically inspected it due to it's location but I'm thinking of availing a prepurchase inspection before I inspect it.

Also, I have never owned a car so If I ever get this, would I have any issues with registration or getting a comprehensive insurance?

Any input is very much appreciated.

Thanks

Update
Thanks folks for the feedback - I've decided not to go through with this. Cheers

    Avoid if possible else proceed

  • No picture, nothing to show the condition of the still so call Car, when write-off is write-off, need to pay bill bill to repair then become Road Worth, any Mechanic Tradesman to ask ?

What on earth are you on about. It's been repaired, inspected, and registered.

    • It has been repaired and inspected written off. Though seller doesn't have the Vehicle Identify Validation certificate.

I'm assuming it has since it has a valid registration when I checked in PPSR

    Someone hates that Car.

Please change rego when you purchase it.

Personally would avoid write-off if possible, just in case you want to sell it later it will also be a pain from potential buyers asking you questions and pushing the price even lower than your listed price. Also feels like seller went to unsafe place to get the car vandalised to the point of being a write-off twice within two months…

    • It's been a write off once. One of the listed is the initial write off, the other is when it's inspected and passed.

    • The price will be lower when you sell it but then you bought it lower to begin with.

I'd be checking the quality of the respray. It was vandalised to such an extent that the costs of repairing were greater than the cost of the car, which would be significant. Most economical write-offs of newer cars are airbags deploying etc…

If it was not a RW, how much do these cars sell for ie how much are you saving?
Then, factor in if you plan to drive a car for another 15 years which Hondas generally should be able to do. Resale Issues when people want to know why its a RW, and afaik dealers do not trade in repairable writeoffs (i could be wrong here).

    • I purchased a report for this car and it says private sale price ranges between 27.4k to 31.1k and price comparison 28.5k - 34.6k. It looks like I the price is not competitive considering it's a RW..

Though it is still open for negotiation

      • You paid for a report? Lol… How about just checking the market?

        • Lol don't remind me :P

There used to be two 2019 VTi-S that's priced 30k and 31k (drive away) respectively in carsales, but they've been sold

I'd ask my insurance company if they would insure it,

but no way I'd touch a repaired write off…. too risky

  • +5

Lol… no. Maybe if they knock the 2 off the front of that price. Because sure as hell, when you go to try and sell it, that it the first thing people are going to do to you when they find it’s a write off.

    • Thanks, I haven't thought of resale value since I'm planning to to use this for a very long time, but yeah I should consider resale.

    27k sounds too much

No, you are buying an ex writeoff for that much? Are you insane?

  • The damage appears to be non structural if it was stripped for parts. Vandalism could also mean the interior was filled with poo so the stench will never be completely eradicated. If the damage was such that it has been repaired properly should effectively be a used vehicle like any other to drive and own… BUT it will always be under the cloud of being a write off. it will be harder to sell and harder to insure.

Someone less diligent may buy it for that price, but if it hangs around for a while you could get a decent priced almost new car.

  • Could have been used as a soup kitchen, pass.
