eBay Feedback. Do You Leave It?

Feedback was once a cornerstone of eBay.
I still go through the process whether good, neutral or bad, but have noticed I get less and less.
Do you bother? Is it pointless now?

If I have a terrible experience, yes (looking at Harris Technology). If I have a great experience, yes (good customer support, fast shipping, good first impressions, etc.). If it's nothing special, no.

  • +6

Generally yes, especially for private sellers which will benefit from positive feedback much more
I leave feedback for buyers once I received feedback from them

Only one +? You must have been greatly disappointed

      • +3

the extra +++ is reserved for you.

I tend to leave expressions of nothing at all, like someone opened a book and copied out a sentence at random.

I do wonder what people think sometimes. :D

Dissolved oxygen is one of the most important constituents of natural bodies of water as it is essential for both chemical and biological reactions.

I swear I've seen comments like these and thought… What the hell are they talking about 😂

Here's some of my recent feedback:

If I divide two by sixteen I find that the multiple of that is sixteen times less than two itself. Brilliant!

Now I am a samurai, be afraid. Be very afraid.

I cannot explain why I bought it, but it's mine now.

Looks like it was harvested from tiny aliens

It makes you ponder the existence of life on other planets

I like to stay home with my monkey and my dog

well dang ho, if the varmints a runnin I's a shootin!

If my dog was a squirrel he would have had a hard time eating these chews, far too chewy for squirrels. Fortunately he was born with a much larger mouth and throat and really didn't have any problems eating it all. Is this a good thing though? Should we be tricking our dogs into eating medication or get a signed form of consent? I know if I was a dog I would rather be pawing my Fido Doe on a piece of paper before taking part in medical experiments. I doubt it will protect him from coronavirus.

          That's fantastic!!

        • +1

Great to see you made the most of eBay increasing the character limit with the dog story!

On my first 30 purchases - yes. Not since then.

I'm generally the worst at not leaving feedback when bad things happen.

Several years ago I bought several items from a seller they claimed to be "new, factory sealed." Turns out every single one had been opened, used and destroyed in most cases.
The packing they provided (not sure why they bothered as it was broken before they sent it) had been used as a bird cage poop catcher. I went meh can't be bothered leaving negative feedback.

Then recently I bought a car part and got a box full of rust. It was new when it was put in the box but the box got wet . Though they did replace it with a non rusted part after about 7 weeks lol.

I haven't used ebay in a long time but my rule was when I was the buyer, I would only leave feedback if I received feedback.

    • +1

And they only leave feedback when you leave feedback.

      The system works!

  • +22

Funniest feedback I saw was "The seller was so great, if we were in prison together, I would protect them in the shower".

    • Oh I'm going to start using that 😂

  • If they leave me feedback I will reciprocate.

I don't care if I get feedback as a buyer and I don't sell on eBay anymore.

  • +4

As a seller I will do auto feedback once buyer paid. As a buyer, if item as described, and seller has left feedback, I will leave a positive one.

    I only buy on eBay.

I generally only leave feedback if they are a private seller or a new store starting out. My positive feedback won't make a difference when they already have 10,000+ positive.

I must admit, I do like the ego boost when sellers leave me feedback:

Great communication. A pleasure to do business with.

Excellent buyer with prompt payment, thanks!

Excellent Ebay buyer, smooth transaction, thanks

Quick response and fast payment. Perfect! THANKS!!

Good buyer, prompt payment, valued customer, highly recommended.

Thank you for shopping with Spares Box. Highly recommend, valued customer.

And all I needed to do was just click the pay now button… a bit like a toddler's sporting carnival- everyone gets a ribbon.

  • Takes me back. Used to be a must do. Can't remember last thing I bought that was a private seller. All seem to be dropshippers or companies now

IMWO - Ebay feedback isnt worth a pinch of shit anymore…

  • As a seller, I leave feedback if someone leaves feedback for me. As a buyer I'll generally go through once a month and just copy-paste the same feedback on my purchases. :p

  • I don't leave feedback for Good Guys or Kmart, I'm not going to bother on eBay - I haven't bought anything via auction or from a private seller in years where it would actually matter.

  • +4

As a small eBay seller I wish people would leave feedback.

Only 1 in 5 of my "customers" leaves feedback

    • +2

I’m with you, I leave feedback for anyone who buys from me and yet I hardly ever get feedback from them.. as a small ebay seller, I’d just like feedback on the products to help the business grow..

    • I once used ebay a lot, you can msg them and ask for and your ratio will go up to about 7/10

just draft something up and save it, do it once a week or whatever your turn over justifies

it can also depend on what youre selling. If its something that can be used straight away or something people have bought to use later but dont want to give feedback until they have used it

  • Only if they have low feedback like a private seller

Stores that have like 10000+, I mean if you buy from them, you're pretty much getting your item with no hassles.

  • I always try to leave feedback for individual sellers, so that other buyers can see that the transaction went okay. I don't bother with the corporates.

  • I usually give positive feedback where the "goods are as described" and were "despatched promptly" and received in a reasonable period of time given these transit times have blown out a bit these days.

The inherent flaw with Feedback is it can't be changed, so if the product I buy dies/falls apart/fails to work for more than 2 weeks, I'm unable to follow it up publicly.

I have this personal policy to encourage small traders particularly, who do the right thing, but are largely unsung for their efforts.

  • I always leave feedback when buying. When several sellers have the same item at a similar price, I use buyer feedback to help select the vendor. Quickest delivery time is often the most important criterion when purchasing.

  • I generally leave feedback but generally take a while to get around to it.
As a buyer I have on rare occasions left negative feedback as a service to others. For example when they sell something advertised as being located locally when it is clearly coming from overseas.

  • I've been stuck at around 200 points for the last ten years. No matter how much feedback I'd leave, even requesting they do the same after sending a msg, nothing. Don't bother any more. I've bought hundreds of products off eBay. So why bother.

  • +2

Yes of course. How rude not to

  • I want to leave feedback on a product via OzBargain , but the comments are closed.

  • Absolutely, even on Etsy.

Annoying when people don't. Just say thanks or A+ if you're super lazy 🤷‍♀️
