  • Anyone have one?

  • There's a few alright looking ones with similar markdowns in the recommendations underneath. Not sure if they any good though.

  • I guess it's fake RRP.

I've always wanted a high quality waterproof jacket but with most of these style stores having ludicrous RRPs it's really hard to commit online. Would love someone in the know to comment on this item.

They're similar to Kathmandu really. Overall, good quality products, but are overpriced during 'regular' sales and for whatever reason, like to advertise ridiculous RRP as if you're the one making a massive saving, when all that's happening is that they're making a huge profit! Only time to ever buy their branded items is when they have a decent sale on (like 50% to 75% off their 'regular' sale price), otherwise, any other time of the year, you're paying to much.

That's exactly my point - I feel like this jacket is probably really only worth it at $170 thus making it more of a fomo purchase than anything. On the other side of the coin - that's still lower than most other stores of a seemingly comparable item.

    • I'm in the same boat I'm always looking for a decent goretex rain jacket but the process for quality ones are insane. I really like the arcterex ones but I'll never pay close to $1000 for any piece of clothing. I would however pay $300-$350 if I thought I would get 5+ years (likely more like 10) out of it.
I'm not looking for something super stylish but at that price I wanna be able to wear it both in the city while commuting as well as in the wilderness and know I'm covered in a downpour without sweating to death when the rain stops.
Is that too much to ask? C'mon Patagonia/Arcterex remember that not everyone has more money than sense and while we appreciate your technology and environmental creds we also have bills to pay.

I went down this rabbit hole recently and ended up kind of deciding I'd try the Marmot Preclip. At the time it was 95 dollars on amazon, rated well for breathability which was important to me.

I got distracted and didn't order it, and can't find the listing again, but as far as price/performance that we can get in AU I think it was the winner after several hours of research. Might be worth checking out.

edit: Found it, looks like it's up about 15 bucks, but it is amazon, so if you don't like it, send it back: https://www.amazon.com.au/Marmot-Mens-PreCip-Jacket-Black/dp…
