Nice Tasting, Less Expensive Alcohol for a First Timer?

I will be trying alcohol for the first time out of curiosity and am looking for some nice tasting alcohol that is low in price.
I prefer the alcohol to be in a small size container i.e. a can or a small bottle.
There is no special occasion and i will not be drinking just to get drunk. Any ideas or experiences?

Alcohol is best in moderation which means you can buy the good stuff. For example Gin and Tonic is an amazing drink for a new drinker but use cheap gin and you likely won't ever drink another one. I just don't think you should ever cheap out on alcohol as the price often reflects quality. I wouldn't even bother with mixers full of sugar, including those ciders using syrup (which is every huge cider label), it's all crap.

    • Agree on the entire line. Keep it simple and try a good gin and tonic prepared with a good gin. You'll taste the alcohol, but you'll also taste what the alcohol is good at: bringing out and preserving the smell, taste and after taste of the botanicals.

Drink with your brain, not to shut it down.
If you have a good drink, a glass is all you need (also because the good stuff is $$$ and this is ozbargain).
If you have a bad drink, a glass is one more than you need.

    Hand Sanitizer

  • Grab a cab of Canadian club and dry, or with Cola if you're a fan of sweet drinks

    Anything from Brookvale Union
    - Ginger beer
    - Lemon lime and bitters
    - iced tea

  • Canadian club in a bottle if advertising tells me anything (not overly cheap though)

  • Without knowing what you like drink wise it's kinda hard to recommend anything.

I'd go with a nice aged scotch whisky but that would probably be too much for a introduction. For the sweeter side with a slight hint of whisky Shin make a nice plum wine called Shin Whisky Umeshu which comes in a small 500ml bottle for not much money.

Pour over a lot of ice in a tumbler and sip. Really quite tasty.

  • Mississippi moonshine

  • Drink goat milk. Much much better.

  • Vanilla Absolut and a heap of different mixers (to try which one you like best, not all at once)
Blue Alize + vanilla absolut + lemonade.

  • Absinthe is nice and light

Putting Kahlua on vanilla ice cream is a good introduction to alcohol.

Assuming you are young any cheap whisky with dry ginger ale should be sweet enough for you to enjoy the drink. Mix it yourself to get the right personal mix for your taste. Add ice too.

If you really have a sweet tooth try southern comfort and lemonade. Add ice too.

  • Shandy. For a memorable experience, shandy at Oktoberfest in Munich.

  • Or Midori Illusion. It’s Summer after all

  • Mascato, you'll love it.

  • First recommendation would be Bundy, second….Bundy

  • Ozbargain way would be to order an etag, then suck on the alcohol wipe that come with it. Then send it back for a refund on the account credit.

OP posted this and hasn't been seen since. What did we do? I hope they're not in a gutter somewhere after drinking some bundy and getting in a fight…

  • Cider is an easy drink for many to start off on.

  • Pink moscato

  • Absinth

  • Yes I’d try something premixed from the bottle shop. Can recommend Bundaberg rum dark and stormy
