Engagement Ring Insurance

Hi Oz,

Just wondering if anyone has looked into it or has done it? Any recommendations ?

Edit: Q report seems to be the go. Thanks for the input.

Yes, Q Report. Looked into adding to home and contents and it wasn’t any cheaper. Depends on the ratio of your ring value to the rest of your contents.

Damn never knew that existed. Surprised their reviews are so perfect.

    • This. Q report are excellent.

Normally it would go into your contents insurance as a portable item with a specified value. Need a valuation certificate too.

    • Generally its not cheaper and may come with restrictions.

Q Report cover world wide IIFC

    • Same thing with wedding rings, and anything with diamonds really.

Wholly shit. Love how the parent company of De Beers is called AngloAmerican lol.

      • Haven seen the video in a while but if it's saying that debeers is a monopoly that's just not true anymore iirc

        • iirc

Got any data to back that up?

@deme: I mean, you can just Google it. It's even on the wiki page.

They used to handle 90 percent of rough diamonds now it's about a third of that due to competition

    • Not the question being asked buddy

I totally agree that diamonds are stupid but you posting this is the equivalent of someone having a steak dinner and then going on about animal cruelty. It was unsolicited and annoying.

I did it for the first year but as a specified item and outside the house as well. It was incredibly expensive and not worth it at all

Cubic Zirconium or moissanite instead of diamond. Save money and gives you peace of mind without insurance. You lose it, just get a new one, or better yet just buy two!

burger rings or onion rings works too
eat it at the end of the day

      bonus

Also, Cheezels to REALLY show off.

        • Don't use Toobs though, those things are as expensive as hell at the moment…

    • And the missus will never know!

      • Never lie to your partner.

If you feel that you need to lie about this then you know what you're doing is wrong because you're receiving her. Not a good start to a marriage

    • Yep! Aluminium is more useful than carbon, even in the oxidised stage.

  • I use Q Report as well.

in hindsight I wish I just bought a cheap ring, I hate having to pay insurance on it, but I equally would hate to lose the main stone…… what a pickle

  • I think OP could be thinking of insurances in case the other half takes off before tying the knot.

  • Depends on the value (the actual value, not what you paid for it), valuation will be needed. Speak to insurer as they all require different things.

I've had ones who don't care where jewels are stored, others who demand if over x value - in a safe.

Take plenty of photos. Even a video. Because if you want an exact replacement, a written account will never cut it.

  • Added as a line item onto our house contents insurance.

  • I also use Q Report. They also price matched other competitors!

  • Mines covered by home and contents insurance. Up to $10k

  • Depends what it is worth…

Lots of people value things differently.

  • Wife has lost her engagement ring, and her wedding ring. Luckily we had insurance on both and got paid out, but now both her rings are artificial diamonds but the same design as the originals.

  • Am in the same boat. Anyone have a recommendation for a valuation of a lab diamond ring?

    • whatever cashies will pay for it.
