Looking for a Decent Electric Chipper/Mulcher

Hi all,

Is there such a thing? I've been having a look online and don't see much to be had.

I'm hoping someone at OZB has one of recent vintage that they can vouch for. I'm talking about chipping 1-2 cm branches w/bits of leaves, etc. I realize there are gas powered at many $$$, but this is for the occasional pruning back and such. Looking for something that's not huge as we only have a smallish storage shed. Thinking around the $200 mark.

Thanks in advance!

:)

  • First link on Google for "small mulcher" - https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-2400w-rapid-garden-shredde…

    • Yeah, a neighbour has one and says it struggles with what it's supposed to do. I may have to pay more and buy gasoline-powered if no one here has one "that they can vouch for".

I had a talon mulched like https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/talon-as200100-shr… . Worked well, chipped thick sticks, shredded leaves well but… it felt like took a month of Sundays to turn a wheelbarrow full of waste into a handful of mulch. Feeding anything other than a straight stick was pretty slow.

Since we got our green waste bin I stopped using it and have now sold it.

    • yeah we were the same - gave up in the end.

Chickens get the leaves - the rest goes into the green bin.

    • I agree with previous posts. Only straight sticks feed properly, and thicker ones jam the shredder. Chop up sticks and branches with pruners and put all in the green bin.

    I have one like this
    https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/662625517807419/

It is quiet and It has paid for itself many times over mulching trailer load after trailer load close to 50 6X4 mulched trailer loads over the years its easier to just mulch it straight into the trailer and transport it to where its needed as i have acreage.
The only thing it struggles with is peppercorn trees as they are sticky as hell and jam the exit chute everything else no problems.
I got it from ebay cant find any there now

  • I think your issue is everyones expectations of fast/acceptable/slow as shti - are different…

  • I don't mind slow if it works. I used one previously that a moving neighbour gave me- nearly new as he'd just got it before moving to an apt. It would take the thinnest stems and that was it. If anything else passed through it gummed it up. I gave up on it. Now, we have a place with lots of mature shrubs that get pruned often so would like to chip it down as required. There's only a carport and a small shed, hence trying for something on the smaller size if possible, but not a total deal-breaker.

    Thanks everyone

  • Well, after checking all of your links, I'm thinking I night have to part with more money to get what appears to be the better unit:

I don't mind it crushing and then I separate the outcome for various purposes.

    Thank you all, appreciated.

    • I’m actually looking at getting the same model. Reviews on YouTube and the Bunnings website seem quite positive

      • Reviews say seems good for branches but not leaves and small branches with leaves, but most customers satisfied

  • Sorry to revive an old post but did you end up with a model you'd happily vouch for? I'm looking for basically the same thing you originally described.
