Bambino Plus Stop Brewing a Few Seconds after Pressing 1-Cup / 2-Cup Button

Hi Ozb, and Bambino Plus users,

First of all, I have submitted this issue to Breville, and trying my luck here while waiting for the response.

My Bambino Plus is acting up recently. Normally, when 1 cup / 2 cups button is pressed, the machine will dispense some water (pre-infusion) for a few seconds, then main pump will start for the brewing phase.

However, my bambino plus BES500 stops right after the pre-infusion phase. Water level isn't a problem as there are ~1.5l of water left in the tank.

It happened a few times last few weeks, normally it will recover after I factory reset the system. This time it does not.

There is nothing wrong with the pump hardware, as I can still perform descaling cycle, and the pump sounds alright.

Here's the video

Appreciate if anyone has this experience can share the solution. Cheers.

  • hmm have you re-tried progamming a new shot time or doing a manual shot?

    • I tried manual shot and it stopped at the same point as well, despite my finger was still pressing on the 2 cup button.

I have been using this machine since August 2019. Long term review, this machine isn't recommended. The hardware itself is very well built. But the SW is probably written by monkeys on Friday afternoon.

  • Have you done the clean cycle?

  • Yeah many times over the last 2+ years of usage.

But I had problems with cleaning cycle in the last 1 year. Where the cleaning cycle didn't come up every 200 shots, it came up more and more frequently, up to a stage where the cleaning cycle came up every few days.

And no I didn't confused cleaning cycle (1 cup 2 cup flashing alternately) vs descaling warning (1 cup Steam flashing alternately).

    • I just got this problem today on my double dose button and cannot fix it.
I went a tad too much on the fine grind and choked the machine. Now it's refusing to do a double shot.
Please let me know if you get a response from Breville.

      • Just called Breville support.

She can't tell what's the problem. She told me my machine is out of warranty, but they are happy to cover the inspection cost if I will bring my machine into their service centre. But I will need to fork out the repair cost after investigation if I were to repair the machine.

  • Just a suggestion. Unscrew the fine metal filter that the coffee in the basket pushes on when its engaged and clean it, You may have a build up of crud under there that's affecting the pressure sensor.

    • +1

Thanks for the suggestion, i did try that before. I remove the screw and popped the shower screen and it was surprisingly clean after 2 years of usage. But cleaning it didn't help.

      Thanks though.

  • Mine did something similar this morning, though even the clean cycle didn't function properly. Ended up sitting the machine under the air con for a good 30 minutes disconnected and came good again. The pump may have overheated due to the summer weather.
