How to Remove Strong Adhesive on Car?

I am trying to remove some strong adhesive on my car.

https://i.imgur.com/bXLvQXE.jpg - This is from a linkt tag that was clipped onto the windscreen.

https://i.imgur.com/uCh1JaJ.jpg - I think this is from an old uber sign on top of the roof.

I was thinking about using a heat gun for both but mainly the roof as I didn't want to damage the paint, Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Petrol on a rag. Then have some warm soapy water to remove petrol residue

Standard WD, and a razor blade, then wipe down with Soapy water multiple times

    • Yep WD40 is good for removing many types of adhesive

  • Canola/vegetable/olive oil is good for some adhesives. You can try soaking the residue for 10-20 mins, then use a blunt scraper (unused membrship card, for example) then wash with hot soapy water.

Go to Bunnings and get some goo remover or some adhesive remover. (The ones that smell like orange peels)

On the windscreen one, you can use a razor scraper to get most of it off, then use goo remover to get the last of it off.

The roof one, if it hasn’t damaged the paint, you can use the adhesive remover on a soft rag and just dab it on and leave it for a min or so and start to wipe it off.

    Try Eucalyptus Oil.

It's safe, clears out your sinuses while you use it, and is eco-friendly.

Next post: my car is covered in koala poo. What now?

      Eucalyptus oil works well

Try one of these, i changed the weather shields on my car and i tried everything nothing worked that great except for the caramel wheel. Wax and grease remover helped finish it of but the caramel wheel worked the best.

I used Orange power to clean adhesive of my car windows before so thats another option.

    • Is orange power ok on paint? I wouldn’t.

Check the chemicals you have at home as some will remove it and therefore you will not need to buy anything. Check and try these:
    1) Nail polish remover
    2) Eucalyptus oil
    3) isopropyl alcohol
    4) Hand sanitizer, but then you will need to use spray and wipe to get the non alcohol ingredients off.
    5) WD40
    6) Spray and wipe

The first option has acetone - paint stripper.
      Would only really recommend isopropyl.

    Heat gun

    • Heat in most cases does not allow you to take off the residue and I would not use heat on glass.

  • I had to remove a heap of adhesive when I removed the window tint from an older car due to bubbling.
I bought some Goof Off from Bunnings, it was working but not that great. I then had access to this medical stuff https://www.medshop.com.au/products/smith-nephew-zoff-adhesi…
and it worked so much better

  • I’ve used xenit citrus cleaner in the past while debadging cars, etc and it worked a treat to get rid of all the adhesive residue. I still use it now when getting rid of sticky residue from various household things. I got it from autobarn years ago not sure if still available there

  • Metho or metho+water. Don't use it on plastic (might degrade it), but works great for metal or glass.

    • Paint is a plastic.

  • Thanks for the suggestions guys!
