Miele Vacuum cleaners

I am looking at buying a Miele vacuum cleaner, and can't decide between the s5211 or the s5311+SBB. On the miele websites, it says that latter one is for hard floors; and is approximately $90 more expensive.

My place is 70% timber floors, 20% tiles, 10% carpet/rugs. Which miele should I go for?

Can the s5211 do timber floors ok, or does it scratch them?

There's also the electrolux bagless vacuums that im looking at, but i think miele might be a better brand than electrolux when it comes to vacuums?

Ideally, i dont want to spend more than $300. My place is very small.

What would you guys recommend?

  • I would go with a Miele —> http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/awards/choice-awa…

my knowledge of the 2 vacuums is as good as the next guy, but s5211 seems to have rave reviews.

  • I have the Miele S5211 and I love it, but I only use it on low pile carpet and marble, so I can't really say how it would treat a wood floor. But we're thinking of replacing our carpets with wood floors, and the S5211 has glowing reviews in that area as well. It's an amazing vacuum, even right down to the little things like the colour and the fact that the whole thing will stand up by itself without falling over for easy storage (great for a small space).

Powerbuys.com.au has the cheapest price ($259 plus about $10 shipping), but I didn't want to wait so I went to Harvey Norman down the road and they sold it to me for $270.

  • i first came across the s5211 in a review on ozbargain that mentioned powerbuys. Since that info went up, powerbuys has sold out :) They will bring more stock in though.

I might ring Miele to find out more about the difference between the 2.

  • One more question- is there a cheap place like ebay where you can buy original miele vacuum bags?

Where do you buy replacements and how much do they cost?

Also, is the s5211 easy to maintain- is it just a matter of throwing out the bag and replacing it?

  • I have the S5311+SBB. I love this vacuum - best I've ever owned. I have polished timber floors throughout the house and have never felt the need to use the soft brush. Maybe if my floors were in more pristine condition i would. Only carpet I have is on stairs, and it does them fine, and very conveniently sits upright on a step, i can clean 3 or 4 stairs, move it up a few stairs and so on.. so easy. I buy bags at Harvey Norman - I think last time I bought them was about $18 for a pack of 4 including replacement filters. Slip the whole bag out when its full and slip in a new one. Very simple, clean process.

  • brisneylander, that model has got great reviews on some websites. I think the only difference between that and the cheaper s5211 is that your one has that extra attachment for hard floors. So if you are getting great results without needing to use that attachment, then I will probably just go for the cheaper model.
    Thanks for the feedback.

P.S i have been trying to ring MIele's sales hotline to get some info but they were constantly engaged all day yesterday. How annoying.
The online Miele brochure mentions that the hard floor vacuum is good for tiles and slate, but nowhere does it mention timber floors. I wanted them to clarify this.

  • Update… I finally got through to Miele.

They told me the difference between the 2 models is that the hard floor specialist-
-comes with a specialist attachment for hard floors, and yes it can do timber floors.
    -has a better grip/handle.
    - has touch button, the other one has dials.

Performance wise they are the same, and if you ahve laready bought the s5211, you can buy the special hard floor attachment for $59 from Miele.

  • I am using S5211 with no hard-floor attachment on porcelain tiles floors for the past 2 years, never miss a beat and it looks just nice even if you just leave it in the living room.

expensive dust bag is the only downside but this is one of the few that actually clean up properly around the house. no double job. :)

  • ecks, have you found a shop that sells the cheapest s5211?

    • FYI I bought a display model the other month, but before I did harvey normal matched Billy Guyatts' price of $290 delivered. On the other hand, Good Guys gave me a lecture about how that isn't a real price and they are going out of business and it will never arrive if you order it… so it probably just depends what sales person you get.

  • I found $298 delivered including a set of bags here:

    Anyone knows about aus-appliances.com.au reputation?

  • The best miele vacuum right now is s5 capricorn I would highly recommed it! If you need review or additional info about you can find it here .

  • We have a S5211 & turbo head. Managed a deal for all including a box of bags for around $320 from HN.
I would recommend getting the turbo head. It is non powered but the Miele has the suction to make it work well.
We have had a lot of vacuum cleaners in our time and the Miele is what you want a vacuum cleaner to be. I would not consider another make now.
We got sick of the cleaning routine with bagless and prefer the bagged version.
The Miele bags do hold a lot and are cheap on ebay. Only use the genuine bags.

  • We have the s5211 and it is a joy to use. We have spotted gum floors and it leaves no marks/scratches using standard head.

  • I got the Miele S6330 (Hardwood Floors) model for $318.00 from Meyer. Its selling at $375 at the moment -> http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/clearance-electrical/mie…

Apparently its the higher model up from the S5211+SBB ?
