Do Smart Cameras for Home Security Require a Static IP

Hi OzB,

Moving into a new home and am looking at setting up a new NBN connection. I've been told by Vodafone that they do not offer Static IP services so am wondering if all the smart home cameras on offer today (Eufy, Arlo, etc etc) require a static IP in order to be accessed remotely.

Are there brands that are able to be used without a static IP facility?

  • Nope, you're all good.

    They rely on an account.

  • If you are using their cloud services, you are going to be fine.

  • +4

    RP + https://www.duckdns.org/ can get you a dns + https://letsencrypt.org/ for SSL
But stick to account, if you not good with setting things up.

    • Thanks for the Duck DNS suggestion!

  • You should be fine if you're going to be accessing your cameras remotely via their servers or the cloud. Otherwise, you'll need your own static connection to be able to dial in.

    • I don't have static IP. Access reolink cameras remotely just fine.

  • Awesome thanks for the info.
