Best Post/Courier for Large in Size but Low in Weight Items?¥

I'll be posting about 40 to 100 parcels for a church thing I'm helping my parents with. This is a one off and we obviously want to get the lowest postage rate.

The items I'm posting are quite light (500g to 1kg) but their volume/size means that their cubic weight would be around 4kg which ups the price quite considerably. Thinking of going with Sendle which is cheaper than Auspost excluding rural rates but I have heard they're very unreliable.

Does anyone else have any recommendations? Thank you!

Sendle is pretty decent, depending on who they choose as the carrier,

Sendle isn't a courier actually, rather a company redirecting couriers usually to COURIER'S PLEASE, or ARAMEX/FASTWAY, or some other courier's (Whoever is the cheapest in bulk to that area.

To be honest I find the AUSPOST's new prepaid packaging system pretty good, in that I can send any item upto 5 Kgs, for so cheap compared to other courier's AS LONG AS IT FITS IN THE PACKAGING. (But that is kinda opposite of your need, i.e. you sending small physical weight, but more cubic weight)

    • Thanks for replying! I wonder if the redirects is what gives Sendle a bad rep then. Also good to hear they're not as horrible as other people make them to be.

And yeah, AusPost is pretty darn good for the price when you consider it's under 5kg and just needs to fit in their boxes. I've used it plenty of times in the past but this time it's a bit tricky since as you mentioned, my items are light but need more cubic weight.

Sendle use CP/AMAREX which are very expensive for rural areas.

Go to your local Australia post and ask about a MY BIZ account
They will sign you up and should offer you BAND 3 for your first 8 weeks
this will get you significant discounts on postage.

You can then use the Parcel Post boxes (also discounted if you have a my biz account)

a Large Box (up top 5KGS) will cost as below for BAND 3

    Same major city
    Prices from
    $11.17*

    Other major city
    Prices from
    $13.40*

    Rural
    Prices from
    $15.47*

You may even get bumped to BAND 4 while you are buying your labels… its an automatic process

  • I've been waiting 17 days and counting for a package from NSW to WA via Sendle … their estimate tool stated 10-14 days.

if you hate the people you're sending it to or they are not fussed about dealing with the a-holes that is sendle/their drivers, or can wait up to 5 weeks to get a parcel from A to B go then sure go sendle.
