Got this email from EA, they want us to beta test it.

    • +1

      Is it that bad?

      • +17

        Yeaaaah, sadly it is

      • +1

If you like Fortnite-esque games full of bugs, then no.

        • Fortnite-esque? In what way?

          • +1

@TheGoodPart: Classes replaced with specialists with their cheesy one-liners at the end of each game, massive BR-sized maps with desolate landscapes that are nothing like Battlefield maps, where you spend 5 minutes running to an objective only to be sniped, low number of weapons, cheesy skins.

    • +28

Lmao they did actually beta test it.. but completely ignored all of the feedback and released it unfinished anyway

      • May beta 2 test it again

      • Classic EA.

      • +4

The "beta tests" are generally just hype builders by letting people try it for free

    • +3

At least this beta test is free, unlike the one that suckers (like me) took part in by actually paying EXTRA for access to the beta and the 1 week early access.

What a steaming turd this game is.

  • +18

    yeah nah

    • Agreed

  • +5

Here's the other Steam free to play Weekend games:

ARK: Survival Evolved - ends in 3 days

    KovaaK's - ends in 4 days

  • +2

I guess if it's free we can try it but wouldn't pay for it.

    • +2

It's a bit better than before because it has had 3 patches and 64 player maps also added this week.

      • Did they just reduce the player limit or did they also tweak the maps to suit the lower count?

        • The maps are tweaked, with different objectives (like the last gen versions of the game).

You also still have the option of 128 player breakthrough or conquest.

        • PS4/XB1 gen consoles already had 64 player versions of the maps, all they did was add them to PS5/XBSX/PC versions of the game.

  • +8

finally can see what all the complaining is about…

  • +8

    Reeks of desperation…

  • +3

As low effort as Vanguard is, at least it works and has content. (Campaign, Zombies, 20 maps). If it wasn't for Portal BF2042 would get roasted even more.

  • +5

Have played Battlefield all the way from BF1942, never really missed a game. Still play BF4, BF1, BFV fairly often. Played the beta of this, thought it was alright. Going to install the free weekend of COD Vanguard instead…

    • +1

Same, bought it for PlayStation, only BF I have traded

      • It's ridiculous that on PS5 you couldn't choose to play 64 players.

You were forced to play 128.

        It's just a mess.

        • +1

I tried the beta on PC and PS5. Beta, you could restrict to same platform gamers only, ie PS5 v PS5. Apparently, they removed that on launch lol.
I did buy BF2042 for PC from Amazon, didn't even open the parcel, refunded it when I read reviews.

        • You can now, they just added the 64 player version of the maps to PS5/XB1/PC.

          • +1

@andigaming: Apparently that's just a "limited time" playlist, though? Wouldn't surprise me if they made it permanent if that's what it takes to get people to actually play the damn thing.

            • @AngusD: Yeah I heard the same, based off the overwhelming positive feedback I'd be surprised if they didn't do that but EA/DICE can be a strange beast at times I suppose.

    • Xbox 360 servers of bad company 2 still work well. Great fun. Just the 30FPS that hurts it.

    • I'm buying COD Vanguard. Haven't touched a COD since MW2 original.

  • +4

Seems they're trying to get their MP playerbase numbers up for Christmas. Embarrassing that Battlefield V has had higher numbers these past couple of weeks.

Worth it for free, but still a rubbish game.

  • lol! 39bucks just before

  • -7

Bahahahaha the shit game strikes back

Only dumbasses think 2042 is good lol

  • +16

Dont waste your time, it's a shit game. BF2/3 and Bad company 2 remain in top of my list.

    • I might give it a go for free. Only interested in Portal though, 2142 mode and the team extraction don't really interest me after the beta and gutting of the stuff I played BF for.

      • I only played it for the first week or so before uninstalling it, but Portal appeared to be dying out even then. Not sure what it's like now… I suppose you can play against bots if nothing else :(

        • If that's the case, it saves me buying it even down the line for portal when it's on super-discount.

      • The big problem with Portal is that its constantly reminding you that you could be playing another better version of the game rather than 2 maps and 6 guns.

        • Won't argue that point, but there's next to nobody playing the older ones anymore, else I'd jump on as well… :(

    • +1

I have such great memories of late night sessions on BF2, BC2 and BC2:Vietnam. Its a completely different game now. Very disengaging and self serving. Attempting to provide instant gratification after every round.

  • Was pretty looking forward for it but luckily I didn't buy and saw all these neg comments. Definitely will try it first and hopefully, they will fix everything after this "beta" test.

    • You might be pleasantly surprised - game definitely doesn't deserve all the hate/

  • +6

EA need to pay us to play this dog shit

  • Can't say this surprises me, won't suprise me if it goes free to play all together

  • +1

Free already? Man they never did this so early before.

  • Free to play… but why would you?

  • +1

I was just playing the Christmas mode its a bit of fun, you get to be either be Santa with a gun or a evil elve with a sharp candy stick as a knife lol.

  • +8

BF2042 is a real shame. They could have just released new maps for BF4 at 1/1000th of the cost and it would have been a better game

    • +2

At least secondary gunners in BF4 helis had weapons.

How have they removed features like that.

The TV missile videos were some of the coolest funniest videos for BF3/4.

      • What do they now in secondary heli seat? Take photos?

        • One of the helis literally yes.
          You get a spotting camera

  • is it possible to finish the campaign in that time?

    • Hahaha, yes, 100x through.

    • +2

Ahaha there is no campaign or single player

  • +1

It's free, see if you enjoy the game. I like it. Probably more because I'm not comparing to past versions.

  • If you guys want this game to tank to $5 then dont play on the free weekend. It will decrease in price rapidly!

    • Not buying it will cause it to tank, playing free weekend won't do anything.

      • Playing the free weekend will allow them to trumpet how many "players" the game had in December….

  • +3

EA should pay me for playing it .

  • +5

They took away everything that made BF unique.

Classes and vehicles ARE the game.

Another corpse on the EA heap.

    • +1

      Don't forget no server browser!

      • -1

There is a server browser - don't spread misinfo

        • +1

          Only for portal

  • +2

    Not worth the download.

  • +2

F for all the people who paid full price (people who pre-ordered should have known pre-ordering is bad)

    • +8

I think a lot of the complaints here have actually played it. Reddit also has heaps of video grabs showing the issues.

      • -4

I don't, I think a lot of people are just bored and jumping on any band wagon they can.

        • -1

I'm sort of with you on this. This new gamer whinging culture is getting a bit tiring. I'm all for making games better but a lot of the complaints are just straight out petty.
The reality is it's harder for game developers to take risks like they used and push the boundaries - there's a lot more at stake now. Yes, a lot of games are just rehashes of old ideas but that doesn't make them bad, it just means the magic is wearing off on us.

          • @icarus255: The two most egregious aspects are design choices aimed at selling MTX (often gimping gameplay in order to do so - XP boosters in a SP game?) and releasing (sometimes badly) badly unfinished games in order to hit release dates because they can patch it later - often again with a $$ premium attached to pre-order bonuses and early access - which gets hit by the most unpolished and unpatched versions of the games.
You can add misrepresentation and outright lies by dev in there for a third aspect if you like.
I don't think any of those would reasonably be considered petty?

  • +1

It's worth giving it a shot for free given that the gameplay (particularly gunplay) and a lot of the bugs have been fixed with the patches they've thrown at it already. By all means, it is not a complete game and has a long, long way to go, but might be worth giving it a spin if you only ever played beta/launch, just so you can see where it's at.

I found it much more enjoyable to play after the gunplay patches at the very least

  • +1

my friends and i must be the only ones on earth who actually love this game, and we have all been playing since battlefield 2. Have been having an absolute blast ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • +1

It definitely has its flaws but it's already been improving steadily, I've definitely enjoyed my playtime too but I can see how players that suck would have a horrible time in this game.

    • Nope I absolutely love 2042. Long term Battlefield fan here and cannot believe the hatred this game gets. It's a damn good game!

  • +2

Great game they just need to fix it up alot

    • +5

Yeah it's great, if you wanted a Battlefield game that isn't Battlefield.

      • Remember how long BF4 took to get playable?

        • But that was still a proper Battlefield game, unlike this which was going to be another BR game.

        • The problem for me wasnt bugs but the design of the entire thing. They so desperately want to be COD.

  • This is probably going to kill Sales, people will play this and realise how bad it is in its current state and save themselves money instead of waste $79 dollars to learn the hard way like I did.

    • +2

Lol my 2070 cant run this on a decent framerate. Thanks EA for letting me confirm what I needed to know, is to not buy this shit.

  • I feel like this isn't enough to win back the 75% plus of the playerbase that has already left on PC.

  • Yeah nah, I'll stick with Halo thanks

  • Free ok but not paying sorry.

    Same goes for Vanguard.

  • +4

Worst Battlefield EVER, removing the score board because of male toxic masculinity does my head in. Really want my money back on this one.

    • They also removed all chat and the funny thing about that is instead of the energy trash talking you, now your team mates do it instead.

    • +3

      what, no scoreboard? lol wtf?

      • Yep, the result of 'safe spaces' and the pussification of society. People can't handle seeing how many deaths they got.

        • This is a money move, the bean counters think players will be more likely to spend money if the other team isnt hurting their feelings.

        • They could have just gone the Halo route and only showed kills and not deaths

  • +2

perfect example of jumping the shark

game promised so much but delivered so little

save your time, don't download it, plenty of other games out there

    • Yep, I switched over to Insurgency Sandstorm which finally got a console release just before BF2042 came out. It has some rough edges, clearly not the same budget as Battlefield and COD, but a hundred times more fun than BF2042, and much cheaper.

  • +2

This is not a deal and not free, there is a cost to play this game in that you have to download GB's of crap to play only to be let down by a crap game. Don't give EA what they want which is player numbers so they can say we had X players over Xmas look it's not a cancer game… Rolls eyes, you make more of a statement to them by ignoring bf2042 all together. All games are just going down the path of instant gratification no actual game quality and nfts will only make this worse buy skins such fail. Back in the bf1942 and desert combat mod days it was all just about making great games. They could have literally just redone the graphics on 2142 and would be a way better game with titans etc.

    • +1

It will indeed allow them to brag about player numbers over Dec, but internally they're after those free weekend/trial players converting to purchases (especially while the game is discounted). I've got good broadband so the download was insignificant to me. As far as the metrics, they'll see that I only played BF3 Portal for <10mins and then uninstalled. Which will send it's own message.

As far as what I got out of it - it got rid or any lingering thoughts i had of perhaps buying it down the line for Portal Mode to play 1942/BC2/BF3 modes since the best I could get was a BF3 server with 170ping, and then notice how gutted even the BF3 mode is.

  • Not going to lie; I usually finish all the Battlefields during weekend trials since they are short games as single player campaigns.
I'm going in, if you don't hear from me, save yourself and don't send a search party for I will be lost forever!
