9 Month old Costco Tyres - Exploded

Got a new set (4) tyres from Costco in March, just yesterday driving on the M7 my left rear tyre popped… Lucky there was traffic and I was going under 40km/h. Just really thankful that I'm alive after the incident.

Is there such thing as warranty on the tyres if it might have be a manufacturer fault?

My front tyres also had a slash on the side of it. I'm just an everyday driver to and from work.

Just want to know what I can do at this stage. Definitely will get tyres replaced but would be nice to know what peoples thoughts on the situation is.

Other two tyres are fine.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

    *tyre
That slash is at the exact same point as the scrape mark on the rim
. You have kerbed that tyre.
No idea about the blown one. You photo isn't clear enough.

This is what it looks like when someone drives on an uninflated tyre - generally see this on low profiles though (as it's harder to tell the there's insufficient pressure).

Are there any punctures, etc. in this tyre? I'd hazard a guess this is on the rear (as the car would pull left/right if it was on the front)

My front tyres also had a slash on the side of it. I'm just an everyday driver to and from work.

Given that it's on the kerb side, you've probably hit a gutter.

Edit: depending how deep that sidewall damage goes, I'd say you're up for a new pair of tyres.

Popped tyre - How long was the tyre flat/running at low pressure before it popped? That is a classic overheating of the sidewall leading to failure. You could go back to them and ask to do a check with the manufacturer, but I don't like your chances. Given your penchant for rubbing gutters (see below) and low pressure running that is the cause of the failure.
Front tyre - You have been bashing the gutter when parking, not a manufacturing fault.
Hysterics - There would be no reason for your car to crash from a blown rear tyre unless you make it happen. Vehicle dynamics are designed so they default to staying straight and upright even with a blown/flat tyre. Poor drivers that over-react cause vehicles to flip in those situations.

Lmafo. If there wasn't gutter rash I'd be on your side.

This self-incriminating I can't drive or park to save my life post.

Perfect case of not taking responsibility for being a shit driver and oblivious to a subtle handling change for driving on a flat tyre for so long.

Blame shifting is real on this one.

On the front slashed tyre you hit the kerb so hard that the centre cap even popped out.

Please get off the road for everyone's safety.

Title is totally incorrect. They are not Costco tyres and they didn't explode.

You'll need a better tale than that if you think you'll be able to claim warranty on those tyres OP.

The manufacturers will just laugh as you'll be providing them with evidence that it's totally your negligent driving that caused the incident.

Bridgestone tyres are one of the best brands to put on your car, what a waste.

I'm just an everyday driver to and from work.

    I call shenanigans on that.

    Yes there is BUT……

My front tyres also had a slash on the side of it. I'm just an everyday driver to and from work.

It appears you pissed someone off who 'slashed' your tyres hence why one exploded.

Just want to know what I can do at this stage.

Not much you can do, get new tyres, try not to piss people off.

    Tyre blowout = incorrect PSI.

    Tyre slashing = kerb mounting.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Learn how to park, check the two remaining tyres who probably are scared for their lives, buy new tyres, learn how to maintain tyres - in that order :)

    Faulty driver, not faulty tyre.

  • Just really thankful that I'm alive after the incident.

Lol. It's not like in the movies where you roll your car and crash if a tyre goes flat. You have damaged those two tyres, by running them into things.

  • I would check the pressure of one of the remaining tyres. Judging by the looks it is underinflated too.

Check to see if the pumped them up with Hydrogen instead of Nitrogen.

    Costco Tyres

They are Bridgestone… and I thought Costco were making tyres…

    1. Under inflated, check your pressures more often. I know I don’t do this enough, but don’t have low profile tyres so they are more forgiving and more obvious when low.
    2. You hit something. Get a new tyre, that looks dangerous.

tbf to the OP, Ive seen cars with muich worse gutter rash and no popping

either OP hit a metal gutter protector or he's just unlucky
      \
thankfully these 17" tyres are cheap as shit

i doint think any tyre place will guarantee those given it looks like they've had carcass damage

      • X-Trail for sure - that's my bet

when you go back to Costco to complain, demand for tyres to be replaced with bulletproof ones used by the army. You can mount a kerb at 80km/h without damaging them. May not be enough for 100km/h limit on m7

Are you a delivery driver OP ? How come so many curb hits ?

    • +3

Probably has to reverse parallel park out the front of their house daily and is yet to master the skill of not hitting the kerb.
