TV Reception with No Outdoor Antenna

My TV reception is terrible. I’m semi-rural and probably too far from the broadcaster. I’ve tried a few indoor TV antennas without luck.

Am I going to need to install a rooftop antenna?
Is there a cheaper solution?

There is fibre optic internet and it seems to mention TV signal inside the control box but I have no idea how that works. There were cables in another room that could be related but not the room I want the TV in and no way to extend it with a longer cord.

Do you really need terrestrial TV? Thought most people don't watch that anymore, it's just 20% rubbish shows with 80% ads.

A decent internet connection and your preferred streaming service would be far better.

Otherwise, you can try indoor signal antenna boosters but might not help you if too semi-rural, worth a go.

You can also stream live tv with a good internet connection too.

    • I tried that exact Antenna and and got 1 channel. With the Kmart rabbit ears I get 5 but they are not watchable quality.

      • Used one with an amplifier? One that plugs into the mains as well?

    Try this

Report back the coverage summary after you enter your address.

I'm 106km from transmitter and get great reception.

    • I think they may have had this.
There was a satellite on the roof that was taken down to install solar because we didn’t know what it was for.

Satellite may have been for Foxtel which they could have used for free to air tv as well.

  • Am I going to need to install a rooftop antenna?
probably if you want to watch free to air

watching catch up over the internet?

Aerials are cheap its the install that will cost the most unless you can do it yourself

  • We don't have a TV antenna at all and yes it is definitely possible to receive all the regular Free To Air channels via the internet. We have an Android TV box (nVidia Shield) and just use the Live Channels application which includes a full EPG. We also added a PVR application on top of Live Channels so that we can pause & record shows. The picture quality is great, much better than the FTA channels on Foxtel.

    • How much was your android tv box?

      • You can get a Mibox for like $80 on special. Alternatively, grab an Amazon Firestick. Both much cheaper options than a Shield (like, tens of dollars vs hundreds).

You can also install all the free to air apps on a PlyStation or XBOX if you have one.

Otherwise, your TV might already be an Android TV - what model is it?

        • Samsung ru8000
          And a hisense R4

Get a TV antenna company to come out and give you a quote to get TV reception as you have made so many mistakes and do not understand the equipment you have.
