Cheap 40" TV. Not Tooo Cheap. but Cheap (Budget $400)

Hi guys. I know I missed the sales (kicking myself), and I know this is the millionth time someone asked this questions probably, but I need to buy a TV for my nephew for xmas. I'd rather something like Hisense, something that won't break in a week, but I also don't want to spend much (aren't we all tight-arses here?). It has to be pickup, in Victoria (around Echuca way). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheap…not too cheap…but cheap…

OP, would have been much easier for everyone including yourself if you mentioed your budget.

    • Not everyone has a budget.

    • Okay. Budget $400.

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-40-full-hd-led-smart-tv-a…

    On sale for $294.

EDIT: Or is that the Kogan First price? I don't know.

    • Thanks I'm just gonna bite the bullet and pay RRP. I need it for the holidays so post isn't an option.

Having had Kogan, Bauhn (Aldi) and Hisense TVs I'd pay a little extra and get Hisense every time.

  • Thanks for the help, I just wanted to see if anyone had a lead on a good deal. I'm just gonna buy one locally. Can't always snag a bargain when you need it

Why not go to a shop and haggle a $500+ TV to $400? If you succeed that, that's a good bargain.

      • Lol that would have to be some really good haggling skills.

Well find a model around $500 (jb/HN/AO, GG), do some background research, and go to the store and ask what is the best price.
Since you after best TV in that price point not any brand name driven. It be walk in the park.

@boomramada: I have a family member who works retails. He hates the "best price" line.

Show them the same product at a different store for less, or compare it to some other TV and work out a deal there.

            • @BadGiraffe: I don't normally haggle on one item, if I get a few things then I might try to get a discount, or the old "throw in that and it's a deal"

It's like you hate money. You can absolutely haggle on a $400 tv. They have already included bnpl etc into the price.

Who cares what he hates. They always do it cheaper even if you have no cheaper offers from elsewhere.

Not on everything though. I did this exact this trying to get a nintendo game down price:
Me: "Hey yo, what's the best price for this?"
Girl at the games desk: "Sorry, we can't reduce price any further. If you want a reduced price, get it on sale."
Me: "I thought there was some room for reduction?"
Girl at the games desk: "Nope. The price tag is what we can sell it for, no less."

Similar response happened when I wanted to get a headset, but it was a guy instead of a girl talking to me at the games desk.

            • @BadGiraffe: Sales people created that line, or mates rate lol

Just don't point at a item and ask for best price. Have a casual conversation and tell them your story, you been looking around , this is my budget then see if they can give you a best price, or whatever.

Having the cake and eating it too.

Almost like that's the whole point of this site. What else would you call a bargain but something to be had for a lower cost than its comparative worth?

  • +2

Without ordering online and getting it delivered as an option that rules out a lot of cheaper options.

Might as well just check your nearest JB/HN/GG and see whats on sale.

    • This + a $99 Chromecast Google TV would make it a pretty good smart option.
