Got Scammed on Fake Crypto

Giving the community a heads up of fake crypto.

The app is hillsu which it said can be downloaded via both google store and IStore. It is not true, you need to download Apk file via www.hillsu.com. ECPC or Encrypt Coin is the fake coin being offered via hillsu.

I got scammed sadly, can't withdraw any funds and no reply from the so called customer service.

Avoid at all cost. I think it is also known previously as Chainlity.

is not true, you need to download Apk file via www.hillsu.com

Their site has links to both play store and iTunes .
Downloading a random APK from somewhere is probably a good lesson on how not to do crypto on mobile ;) (and pretty useless for an iPhone)

    • 'A friend' recommended it. I guess he is part of the scam. Lesson learned.

Doesn't seem like an automatic scam.
You sure you didn't just mess up?

        https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hillsu-debuts-public-crypto-e…

        • That is the only piece of info you can find.
          Nothing else.

          • @greenhj: Entirely possible, though why didn't you at least google it before sending $$$
            :/

You wouldn't be the first to lose $ in crypto and you won't be the last

            • @SBOB: Trusting 'a so called friend' big mistake. Lol. Lesson learned. At least it is out there, now the scammer may need to change its name.

Their site has links to both play store and iTunes .

No it doesn't. Click both images and an apk will download.

nice, I didnt look that hard.

No idea how you wouldnt think 'yeah, this seems wrong' then.
Automatic 'scam flags' should be raised when that happens.

    • just curious, what do they suggest the APK file does? and what it actually does once downloaded?

  • How does this scam work?

Send 1x and get 2x back?

    • You need to deposit via a third party like binance to their 'exchanges'. You can buy and sell crypto but you cannot withdraw any funds.

I tried 50USDT, 150USDT, AND 1000USDT none of them got transferred over. No reply whatsoever.

And one more thing is that there is a spelling error in the word ' Canceled'
      It should be 2 ll.

      • +10

Cancelled and Canceled are both acceptable. The spelling with 2 Ls is what we typically use, whereas the other one is more common in American English.

          Thank you for this info.

    How much did you lose?

    Below 1k.

People that read this junk and decide to buy in haven't done their due diligence.

My mistake on trusting a so called friend. When I did research, it all points not to be involved with this. But he was insistent that it is safe etc etc. Well everyo ne, I got Scam by this co. And hopefully none of you get scam via this crypto.

      • +1

and did your so called friend get scammed too or linked u to wrong one?

        • He said he can withdraw 150 and 1k, but i suspect he is part of the scam. He never shown me proof whatsoever. If he is part of the scam, i am sure he can withdraw any amount for him to show to others that it is legit.

          • @greenhj: LOl wait so he said HE CAN? but not HE DID? he might of fell to it to? also why would your friend scam you

          • @greenhj: Time to invest in bikies

      • +5

Ultimately the decision is yours, blaming it on your friend lets you off the hook, which is a big mistake, you need to blame yourself and own your culpability and greed, otherwise you will keep falling for these scams.

  • Crypto or not, you chose to bypass Play Store and installed a very questionable apk. I would reset that phone if I were you.
Out of curiosity, what was it that attracted you to that hillsu app?

    • Nothing. All research points to not be involved but he was insistent that it is safe etc etc. My mistake not trusting my own research.

      • They could have at least enticed you with a juicy apy. haha
We all make mistakes along the way. Fingers crossed you find a resolution.

Hahaha… so you saw an ad, and your greed immediately kicked in compelling you to hand over all your personal information, including banking details, and now you are bewildered in the foggy world of hope that you have not been scammed.

Wouldn't you do some sort of research first… you have to provide a lot of ID to these people. A lot of personal information. I bet you didn't even read the reviews.

  • Sounds good, I’m in. Can I also get Shopback/Cashrewards cashback?

How about we ease up on the poor bloke?

He made a mistake, and is sharing the knowledge.

Yes, there are steps that could have been taken to prevent it, but the lesson is still valid. Good on you OP for letting people know.

    • +1

Thanks. I posted on ozb just to let others know about the fake coin and app. So that they wont be scam or fall into the trap.

      • Yeah man, I get it. Thanks. It’s the whole point of a community. I hope something gets sorted out for you in any case, and better luck with future endeavours.

Looks like crypto is having a bearish run atm anyway.

I'm really sorry you lost your money… it seems like all sorts of red flags were popping up here at every step of the way though and you ignored them. Why would you think that downloading a random APK from the internet to use as a financial tool would be a good idea? Why wouldn't you rationalise the idea that if they were legit and any good it would be on the Play Store or App store?

As someone who participates and advocates strongly for the benefits of crypto it disappoints me when i see this sort of thing happen and then crypto gets blamed for being shady and "the wild west". If traditional markets were viewed in the same way, the share market would be a land of reckless fraud simply because there a scammers out there who "Can get you exposure to Airbnb and Coinbase shares"

This is not a "Fake Crypto" or a "Crypto Scam"… This is just a "taking advantage of gullible people" scam…. leave crypto out of it.

Came across this a while ago. Sorry for your loss. A good idea before jumping into anything is to dig around twitter/youtube a bit to get an idea. Just need to filter out the noise and the influencers.

  • All of my finances are managed by a well respected, long-term established financial advisor.

Any investments that I would try without his advice would be downright stupid. He knows a helluva lot more about it than I ever will.

  • +2

Man… sorry this happened to OP but boy is it a timely reminder that everyone needs to DYOR before dropping their hard earned into any sort of investment.

There are plenty of great crypto projects out there but unfortunately plenty of elaborate scams too…

Hopefully OP finds a project worth investing in that will make this loss seem like loose change

My research told me not to bother with this because of heaps of red flag. But my so called friend quite persistent that it was safe etc etc. Hence the small amount being put in there in the first place. Thanks for the comment. Now whoever search this crypto or company, they can find that it is actually not real.

  • Next lesson: 'Recovery Services'.. Be aware, be very aware!

They'll offer loads of false promises!

  • Crypto scams are abundant these days. You might want to check out my post on how to identify these websites as fraudulent: https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/rm6til/methods_for_i…

And yes, watch out for recovery scammers. NO ONE can recover your crypto once transferred. It is irreversible.

The exchange you mentioned before went from www.chainlity.com -> www.hillsu.com -> www.grafiexchange.com now.

  • Yeah, someone made a thread just like this at the start of the year..? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/604164
Just got into crypto around then. Their friend also got them into that website. At least you know about them now. There's a few bank account and crypto promos on here, should be able to make 200- 300 easily.

There is certain kind of people that always manages to find the dodgiest sites to shop.

Be it shoes, fake watches, chairs, bikes or whatever.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/Is%20this%20site%20…

      Being scammed takes real skills.

    • It's always a "friend" who gets someone into this. Usually that "friend" refers to some random person who added you on Instagram/Facebook/WhatsApp who chats to you for weeks and months before mentioning the fake crypto exchange. It's a long con these days. A confidence trick and psychological manipulation. And unfortunately, it works often because people don't read up on scams until they get scammed.

      • yep, as long as you buy the major cryptos (listed on coinmarketcap) and on a good exchange (binance etc) you should be alright. Someone casually mentioned : "btc, eth, dot, ada, ksm, aave, snx, zil, rsr, reef" as good options and that close to 3x'd on average since March. Unfortunately, I switched to yield farming and got rugged… was referred by a youtube influencer for that.

        • Yeah, take all investment advice from people online with a grain of salt. DYOR, always. There are way more scammers now than before COVID.
