Nintendo already made heaps of money with this game, Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and more.
Yet, you still have them charging full price or almost after 5 years or so.
The problem is their supporters which will tell you they deserve to sell it at these prices.
I have not purchased yet but generally prefer sub $50
It's not what their supporters say, it's what we all do. If people continue to buy a 4 year old game at these prices, that is what truly supports their pricing strategy.
They’ll stop selling for “near full price” when people stop buying it. Right now all big Nintendo IP are best sellers in their respective franchises. They literally have no reason to discount it more. Nintendo supporters have nothing to do will the large percentage of first time owners of a Nintendo console, and their buying habits. Prices staying high has a lot to do with game cart costs, very high consistent demand, retailer cuts and their agreements not to undercut retailers on the eshop.
Also I think a lot of Switch owners are not XB/PS owners and aren't aware of the deep sales other owners get.
Nintendo is the last of the true great gaming companies.
If they couldn't sell the 3 or 4 killer games that make for their hardware for full price every generation they may as well stop making hardware and just develop games for every platform… personally I think that'll be a sad day :(
