    In b4 buy from AliExpress

Surprising how cheap the brand name units are getting these days

    • What's wrong with AliExpress ones?

I've gone through several stages in the past few years of wanting to order one and see if I can install it. The lack of guides and conversion kits has stopped me though.

It's one of those things that you use every day. Sure, some people here might have good experiences, but you see the same number of complaints as well. You can't claim warranty and it's a PITA to replace when/if the screen fks up, or if the bluetooth is dodgy etc.

HK ones were a better suggestion when branded ones were around $1k. Now they're less than $500, it's just not worth going no-name

        In my opinion…

It's almost like they were ludicrously overpriced at the start…

  • Sony one doesn't seem bad, if it had DAB+ then id seriously consider it for my daily

    But seriously
Buy from Aliexpress - Joying do a good job
i did 5 years ago for $220 and honestly worked incredibly well

    • Just had a look and the Joying units from Aliexpress are going for US$300-400

So I'm with spackbace on this one - not worth the (potential) issues when you can get brand units locally for a similar price.

The ones from $200 on the aliexpress website are still heads and shoulders above what a name brand one for the same price would be.
But yeah depends on your budget

        • True - hadn't compared features etc; and was looking at them through the lens of "cheap Chinese", which they may well not be (which appears to be what you're saying); and is funny if you consider where a lot of the brand units are made…

Hard to find them with a volume knob if that's important to you.

I bought a OUSMIN 7'' a8 from Amazon for $209 has wireless CarPlay and android auto, works surprisingly well for the money and has a volume knob and capacitive screen

  • I've had the KW-M745DBT in one of my cars, was about $350 on special new from supercheap a year ago. Would wait for a boxing day sale.

Also got an xtrons 10" generic china android in another car, and a sony in the wife's car.

Wouldn't get anymore chinese android units - the name brand ones aren't much more expensive, but far better in operation, interface and reliability. The xtrons I have restarts at random times, and the USB connection for android auto works about 70% of the time. The JVC and Sony just work all the time no problems.

  • I just want a double-DIN head unit that will work with the steering wheel controls in my 2004 Commodore, with wireless carplay so that I can just stick my phone on a wireless charger in the car, and not mess around with cables, that won't cost me more than the car is worth.

Is that too much to ask? (Yes, yes it is, LOL)
