Costco Approved for The Gold Coast [Coomera]

After an extremely long wait, the Gold Coast will be getting its own Costco. Will be located next to Westfield at Coomera and opening next year. Finally, I won't be jealous of all those Costco deals OzB'ers keep throwing up, as North Lakes is too bloody far away.

Announcement on Coomera Pimpama Property Investment FB page.

don't worry… costco will have those too.

      • Do they sell them in bulk? My necromancy book says I need a lot.

  • Ok, is it just me,
Or unless you have a large family of 6+ people then the bulk quantites are just contributing to food waste?
Had a friend take me there the other week. The amount of people spending $600+ on bulk items that i wouldn't consider any cheaper than what you could get in a supermarket was mind blowing.

Other than the odd special most, if not all the prices were in line with what i could purchase a smaller quantity from coles/woolworths for.

The only part that were cheaper i guess was the meat section where you need to buy a fair bit.

      No I agree with you.

I like Costco for the following reasons

      1. Petrol is cheap
      2. Cheesecake Factory Cake
      3. Random stuff you can't get at your local woolies or coles.

For everyday items, I don't think they are as cheap as people make it out to be. You have to do the calculation yourself.

    • I'm with you. I went there for the first time in a long time and even though i have a medium sized family I just found the hyper consumerism a bit of a turn off.

What it is good for is:

      1. Decent bulk prices on catering foods such as sushi and sandwich platters. Also other party items you might need.
      2. Rapid COVID tests are 20 for $150 (or cheaper) which is decent.
      3. Toys for kids there are not easily found in other places.
      4. Bulk packs for laundry or kitchen stuff usually work out a little cheaper.
    • The random "special buys" in the middle aisles at Costco is so much better than the ones at Aldi though. You just never know when you want to impulsively buy a full sized kayak or 8 seat corner couch or human sized teddy bear.

  • I guess it’s good for Gold Coast to have one but I can’t imagine myself using it, Coomera is still 40mins drive away from me as a GC resident.

    • Still better than 2 hour drive to North Lakes.

      • Costco Bundamba is 80mins away from Coomera

I didn't know there was one at Ipswich, lol.

  • Costco South Logan

    • You want one in Logan or you want the northern part of the GC to be absorbed into Logan? :)

    Gold Coast needs an IKEA

  • any update for this new Costco store?

  • Quotes apparently closed on 17 Jan 2022 (https://estimateone.com/project/costco-warehouse-fuel-statio…) so probably happening sometime this decade.

Edit: if you believe social media, the service station has just been approved in March 2022 and supposedly staff at Ipswich have been told it’s all opening in Nov 2022.
