PC Upgrade (4th gen) to a NUC (11th gen) - Worth it?

I am currently running an older machine with a i7 4770k (3.5Ghz up to 3.9Ghz), Asrock Z87 Extreme6, 16GB DDR3 with GeForce GTX 980 4GB.

Just wondering if the following NUC would be worthy upgrade in performance? I really like the small form factor of these NUCS - casual gamer, mainly business and productivity user.

Intel NUC 11 Enthusiast i7-1165G7 RTX 2060 Mini PC
Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.70 GHz)
16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4-3200 RAM, 32G OP + 512G SSD, Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060
2x TBT4; HDMI 2.0a; mDP 1.4, WIFI 6, Windows 10 Home, 3 Years Warranty

  • Do you prefer the smaller form factor?

  • This is actually a downgrade: CPU 7% slower without factoring in overclocking

    GPU only 46% faster

Unless the form factor bothers you a lot, I'd be looking into SFF PC

  • not spending 1800 for that spec ….

you want SFF , then get a laptop connect it to a display and keep the lid shut, then it's a slim SFF too

for your budget , you could get laptop with better cpu with rtx 3060

and it's portable when you need it

    • Running a gaming laptop with the lid closed is a terrible idea. Blocks air flow and could potentially lead to screen damage from heat.

      • +1

        depends on airflow design …

most intakes from bottom , with exhaust vents at either sides or rear ,

whilst some exhausts upwards at display hinge , then it's not fine to close lid
