I'm in WA. Wonder what they mean on extreme weather events in WA?

      • +1

Lol not sure, but doesn't seem to be a mistake, they same the same thing on twitter, regarding everyone asking about email not working/

Hi! Due to an extreme weather event in WA, we are experiencing some impacts to our customer service operations. Internet and mobile services are still available. We apologise for any inconvenience, we are working to restore operations as soon as possible.

      • It's the heat. Has happened a couple of times over the years. Maybe AC failed.

        • +1

Single point of failure… that's bad. Might have to do with the power outage?

          • +3

@trex: This reflects the importance Iinet put on the email service reliability and it's affect on their customers if and when it fails.
Redundant infrastructure costs money. Clearly it's not been spent where it's needed….

    It's hot!

It's really McGowan, he heard viruses can be transmitted via email and has taken all of WA's email systems offline to protect the people from Omicron Virus ;)
He calls it a Digital Lockdown as he feels Physical Lockdowns just don't do enough :P

Only premier in oz that has a pair… Daddy cant tell him what to do and when to do it…
      Good on him.

    Yep ditto since 4pm yesterday.

No acknowledgement on social media bar a we are looking into it on whirlpool

    • +1

In the real world, whirlpool is an obscure corner of the internet. It’s just not good enough- a simple post on their twitter and Facebook would have alleviated so much angst, but it’s like they refuse to admit there was a problem.

I hope it costs them dearly- 1). Not giving AF about customers. 2). Complete ignorance of any form of redundancy- in what universe is an isolated MODERATE weather occurance (43 degrees is certainly not extreme!) cause total systems failure. Geo-redundancy anyone?

This has plainly exposed the IDGAF attitude of the company.

Absolute joke that a huge ISP like iinet can't get their email servers up within a few hrs. It's been almost 24hrs now.

  • +6

Why people still use ISP email is beyond me.

  • Thanks Guy's for all your responses.
I'm thinking "iinet" got hacked due to no real advise to their customers .

  • +2

Yes, the problem is you still have your email with your Internet Service Provider.
Please move to Gmail, Microsoft Exchange or some other self hosted email with your own domain

    Is there still a problem?
My emails are still only drip feeding through…

    • +2

My email are coming through but haven't seen hide nor hair of the email from Saturday 3:46pm till Sunday 9:10pm .
Wonder if I will ever see them .

      • Mine from those times are drip feeding through at snails pace but still not getting any recent ones… Probably take a week to catch up assuming their system is backed up… Not impressed…

        • +1

It’s clear with the lack of redundancy that their system won’t be backed up. It’s actually laughable.

        • Stopped getting emails now , sent an email from my gmail account to iinet account 1hr ago still has not arrived.

        • +1

Most likely reason why your emails are drip feeding through is because it's waiting for the original mail server who sent you the email to re-try.

Unfortunately some emails may have timed out already which means you may not get a copy unless the original sender decides to resend the email.

          • @Kyle-K: Thanks - that's a real good explanation.

          • +1

@Kyle-K: Thanks mate. Unfortunately this is not likely the cause as I have sent myself multiple emails from my Gmail account and only one came through… 2 hours after sending… Still must be an issue.
Have iiNet had the decency to advise customers of the current status? I've seen nothing… Superb customer service I must say…

It can be quite normal when bringing a large volume mail server back online that recently sent emails will still get delayed while it processes through backlog of messages resending you may have just got lucky with the first few that you've sent going through instantly.

Have iiNet had the decency to advise customers of the current status? I've seen nothing… Superb customer service I must say…

It's also quite possible that follow up problems have arised from the large volume of email possibly causing the server to go down again for a different reason.

2021/12/27 05:44:18 PM WST Access to Webmail and Email services has been restored. Customers may experience delays in sending and receiving mail due to the backlog of emails.

  • There's a rumour that iinet accounts have been hacked. It's happened before to tens of thousands of iinet customers. Could explain the deafening silence from iinet. 🤔

    • I heard someone released a monkey in the server room.

  • As of this morning iinet are still drip feeding emails as some of my "test" emails from Boxing Dat coming in today.

  • After emailing iiNet Accounts I was offered $10 compensation as they claim they only charge for NBN as "Email boxes are Free" (go figure).

    • No emails in Adelaide this morning. Here we go again!! 😡
