    Remember life insurance ;)

Edit: oh wait it’s just base camp

    • Weren't like 10 - 15 people killed at Base Camp in a single incident within the last 10 years? I remember watching a doco, think it was like around 2010 or maybe just before.

What? How about 300+ pedestrians A YEAR in Sydney.

        • That’s why I always have life insurance. But maybe they’ll consider climbing Everest unnecessarily dangerous and not pay me if I die.

        • +1

          Not the same.

Compare the percentage of people who do it vs those that die.

As an extreme example 10 people may not seem like a lot but what if that's 10 percent of the people that did it and you're considering doing it?

          • @danlovescomps: You’d be surprise how many thousands of people do this trek a year. It gets so busy in peak that most places lock their toilets cause they can’t handle the traffic.

    • it's not that dangerous as you thought

    • Actually lots of people die or have to be evacuated on base camp, it more dangerous than you think. We ran into about 18 super fit footballers from SA in their late teens and half of them had to be helicoptered out before making it to base camp

base camp is most of the way up the mountain. It's about 5.3km elevation. Takes two weeks on foot. You have to acclimatize along the way by staying at stopover points. It's not as easy as you think it is. It's also cold. You gotta learn to walk before you can run. Reaching base camp is a massive achievement. Many who think it's easy end up turning back. The elevation is really tough on your body.

If you think base camp means some tents at the foot of the mountain, you're very wrong.

It was on my fantasy bucket list until I saw Sherpa (2014)

store in title? price in AUD?

      • +1

        This is Australia though…

        • -1

Everest isn't in Australia though. Company isn't based in Australia. You'll be charged in USD and exchange rates fluctuate.

whats the difference between this and the Everest Base Camp Budget Trek?

    • budget trek does not include food during trek

  • +5

Absolute rip off. I did Ace the Himalaya for about AU$900 on scoopon/Groupon and they are an amazing trekking group.

    • -6

price depends on what services are included, there are lots of companies online you can email them and compare

    • Was it a fully guided tour? Did it come with porter's or guides?

      • Fully guided with porters and a guide. The only thing extra I see in this tour is food, water included and tea/coffee. That can be added for about $AU 300-400. My mate and I added that and all up it was about $1200 ( we got $150 back through Shopback with Groupon) but three people on our tour just bought meals along the way. Also you can just filter mountain water with tablets. It’s worth noting that the meals you get are huge, we saw some couples sharing a meal between them.

Ooh that's good value. I went solo and almost passed out halfway through. I might use these guys next time.

          • @ChickenDinner123: Ace the Himalaya is highly rated. They also have really good rapport with the locals if you need anything along the way.

      • -2

yes, fully guided includes guide ,porter, food, accommodation and more

I once went to climb Mount Everest and came across a local village farmer who said he had a rooster that could lay eggs.

I said, “How is that possible?” He looked at me and said, “Himalayan Rooster.”

Good trek, worthwhile experience. Just be mindful that they expect a tip too, and its usually 10% extra.

    Watch 14 Peaks at Netflix

  • Need deals on teleportation devices.

  • +2

yeah… this is a terrible price. You can hire a guide and porter in KTM for much cheaper than this, and have better control over how they are paid/equipped
