Which WFH Monitor? Dell 27 4K UHD S2722QC or Dell 27 QHD S2721DS?

Hello fellow bargainers
I need a monitor for WFH. It will be connected to a Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga and a Macbook Pro 13". I am confused between these two monitors.
QHD S2721DS is $249 with Code and 27 4K UHD S2722QC $369, 2722QC is a USB C monitor. I have read somewhere the texts are too small at 4K. on the other har 2721DS has a bit washed out the image. Any suggestions?

  • You can scale up the text on any monitor with Windows, thats not an issue more resolution prevents eye strain
It's under make text size bigger
QHD S2722QC I bought cos budget was under $300 and USB C sold it for me(Most new pc have many USB C)
Any of them will work well

  • Would highly recommend the S2722QC, have one myself - at $369 it’s an absolute steal. Yes it’s not an individually colour calibrated ultrasharp but in terms of quality and colour representation it’s excellent. The USBC is a great function in a screen and great to future proof. It also charges the connected laptop (albeit only 65W power delivery, but that’s enough to keep a 13” MacBook Pro chugging along at full tilt)

Bought from Dell eBay for $369 last month, first one came damaged (bezel was unclipped at the bottom and wouldn’t clip back). Ordered a second with the intent to return the first for a refund. I opened a return through eBay but the supplied postage label wasn’t suitable so had to get in contact directly with Dell. Their returns process is a nightmare to be completely honest. Took about 25 days to have it all sorted and refund in my account, but got there in the end. This isn’t my first bad experience with dell returns either…

  • What work from home do you do?

    • Reports , visual , little bit of lightroom

  • I think more important than the resolution is if your laptops can pump.out your desired resolution at at least 60hz.

    • I am sure macbook pro can
For the lenovo i think it can do too.. it says
      USB-C to DP: 3840 x 2160 pixels, 60 Hz

I think both monitors will be good. I have a 27" 4K Dell and on the mac you can choose a scaling option that is under 4k but above QHD and the text is visible for my old tired eyes.

With the 4k you at least the option of going all the way to 4K and if you don't like it you can scale it up.

That said. I remember when I bought the 4k I thought to myself I wish I had got the QHD as the increase in resolution isn't that much of a win and the 4K at native resolution is too hard to read.

Right now I am rocking a 32" 4K monitor at native resolution and it's comfortable enough. I do design / video editing.

Yeah i am aware that i will have to upscale to view texts bigger.
Seems like all of you are suggesting to spend $100 more to get the 4k with USB C

  • I bought dell S2721Q UHD monitor earlier this year. The text is way too small for me to, tried increasing the font size through windows and found not all softwares work well with the font size increase setting.

I am also interested in purchasing 2721DS, if you end up buying it, please share if you like it or find any issues.

Thats my worry too. I am thinking about ordering both and then return whichever doesn’t work

You don't run a 4k monitor at 27" without scaling unless you want everything to be tiny. Instead you run it at native 4k resolution but with display scaling enabled (125%, 150% or 200%). This gives you an "apparent resolution" that is lower than 4k (eg equivalent to 1080p) but with every rendered much smoother.

Exactly this. I run my 4k 27" Dell at 150% scaling in Windows10, and I still up my browser zoom setting to 150% to read text comfortably.

      • So u guys are suggesting to go aheard with the 4k usb c

        • Most softwares work well with scaling as others commented above. However, if you have any third party software for work like me, you might wanna test it first. One of the main software that i use most of the time does not play well with the windows scaling, so i am using the monitor with lower resolution. This made texts a bit blurry.

Definitelly go 4k. USB C is nice to have.

Is your Macbook Pro 13" an M1? Text on QHD monitor driven by an M1 Mac is so bad, it made me go buy the S2721QS and order was restored. My QHD is now permanently in portrait mode and seldom used.

          • @clippers: Thanks mate. I went with the 4k. 369 for 4k with usb C cant go wrong i guess

  • Where can find $365 2722qC

    • Dell ebay

  • I'm also trying to decide between the 2722qc or the s2722dgm 2k monitor. Please help, I can't decide lol. I was thinking 2k would offer more crispness than the 24 inch 1080p I use now, but if the 4k is really a game changer, happy to spend the little more. I'm programming all day.

  • I was looking at these monitors, but I can't find a code that will discount them on ebay past $461.25.

    Which code are you using?

    EDIT: It's PSLDELL

For some reason it wouldn't let me enter this code - but it seems to be working fine now :)

  • What the hell, the usb c and $359 (another $10 off with afterpay) was enough to win me over. This monitor and its previous version has got stellar reviews, don't think you can go wrong. Deal ends on 27 Dec. Doing 5 days wfh now I think it will serve me well.

  • Thanks guys i am getting the 2722QC and cancelling the 2721DS
