Claro Summer DC Ceiling Fan $210.10 (Save $70) + Delivered ($0 to Metro) @ Ceiling Fans Warehouse

5SAVE150

I've been on the lookout for some bedroom fans and, after a hot Christmas, I realised it was time to take the plunge. After some shopping around I settled on this fan - it gets a good review from Choice, and it's much cheaper than other fans around a similar price point.

I shopped around and found it for about $250ish. This is the best deal I could find which is $210, with free shipping.

Only downside seems to be that the light isn't dimmable but I can live without dimmability.

  • How much do these usually cost to get installed?

    • I don't know and I'm hoping not too much! Some sources suggest it is trivial to install ceiling fans yourself, I think I'll do some research into this.

      • Friend got quoted $800 on a fresh install without a pre-existing cable run, and checking whirlpool and with an electrician friend this isn't too far out of the ordinary.

It's trivial doing it yourself, but really only if you're ripping out the old one to replace with a new model. Even then it's a total pain in the arse and I see exactly why electricians charge through the nose to install them.

800 does sound pretty expensive for a fan install, if he is hooking in a new feed then it would be understandable, but if he is just jumping of the light circuit, and there is a beam to mount the fan, should be a relatively easy install

      • For insurance sake, get it done by professionals. If the fan is replacing the light, then about $65 per fan.

        • I paid 150 for a fan to replace a fan, and that was cheap, got that rate due to needing 3 fans replaced. Sourced from serviceseeking.

Keep in mind that even if it's replacing a light, these new DC fans usually come with an IR remote controller, so may not need additional wiring. Only other issues I can think of is unable to properly anchor it where the light is, meaning you need to either move the anchor point or put a cross member in your ceiling, and the other issues is not having an earth wire in old buildings for lights, and the fan potentially needing one. As such might not always be very straight forward.

On a side note the DC ceiling fans from Aldi have been excellent and can be picked up for 149 from memory

Any reason not to get the dimmable, WiFi version from Bunnings?

    e.g. https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-130cm-white-4-blade-grid-c…

I have this exact one and have no issues with it, works quite well.

    • I looked at this option. I looked at a range of reviews and they were generally positive but a bit mixed and there were some negative experiences. This one is also a bit quieter. I think Arlec could be fine!

      • Recently just got this and it is excellent. Works well with google assistant (just no fan speed changing and light temperature). Would get the bunnings one just because of convenience and warranty.

    • Having something else sending out a wifi signal plus another wifi device that will hopefully be installed for the next 10 years but never getting a security update from the manufacturer and the firmware was probably copied from an open source that will probably be compromised in the next two years. Anything IOT you usually try to stick with something that can be thrown into the bin as soon as it tries to go rogue

  • Any one got an idea of a couple of fans in the house, on the slowest speed, they don’t even spin and how much it would cost to fix?

Just get a new one. $225 installed.
      $160 for a fan, ~$65 to install.

      • $65 for install? Even if that was a fan replacement or using a existing light I doubt that was performed by a sparky. Should be double that at the minimum. Without that cert might aswell do it yourself

  • Anyone comment on the airflow of this unit? I've had some fans before that move bugger all air…
