Laptops with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD - Budget $1400

I'm searching for a laptop with specifications of 16GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. This is for my youngest sibling. The usage is going to be mainly for office/study and pretty minimal for games (Old games - Counter Strike or similar).

I have come across the following options using the student discount. They are as follows:

  1. IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro Gen 6 14" - AMD

    Price: $1,339.00

  2. IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro Gen 6 16" - AMD

    Price: $1,169.00

  3. Inspiron 15 Laptop - 11th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-11390H Processor (12MB Cache, up to 5.0GHz with ITBM3.0)

    Price: $1,198.00

  4. MacBook Air -
    Price: $1,300.00

Could anyone please help me with a purchase of a laptop. Our budget was initially $1K. But couldn't find any decent laptop with our minimum requirements.

Please suggest if you know of other options. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

    Plenty here under $1000

There's even some XPS 13 9305s under $1300 which I highly recommend - Iris graphics can handle light (and older) gaming very well.

    • I have XPS 13 myself, and the keyboard and the power button looks a bit fragile. The laptop is fine, however the screen size could be an issue for my brother.

Probably might end up getting XPS. Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

    Instead of that Inspiron 15 Laptop - 11th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-11390H Processor (12MB Cache, up to 5.0GHz with ITBM3.0) - $1,198.00

I would pay a little bit more at $1,338.27 and get this one - https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/gaming-and-games/g15-ryzen-e…

    • Ryzen is pretty good but bulky. Let's see what my brother pins down to i.e., Windows or IOS.

The best quality and most powerful machine is clearly the Mac with M1 chip - great kb and touchpad, excellent screen and battery life
I doubt it does much gaming however
A quick Google says CS can be run and probably a few others
If that is enough gaming then don't think twice, get an M1
There is a refurb store but the education discount is probably same price
