Samsung Galaxy TAB S7FE 64GB Wi-Fi - $599 a Good Price? Should I Consider Alternatives?

Is there something else I could get that might be better?

It is mainly for my husband to replace a Galaxy TAB s2. Mainly for general browsing, basic video watching with very occasional viewing of Netflix….so nothing demanding. The old tablet is just getting a tad slow (compared to new models) and pretty slow to charge.

It isn't urgent to get a new one, but saw this price (not sure if it is an error on their part, but would try to get a price beat somewhere else, like JB, TGG or Officeworks)

I've been using the S7 FE tablet for around a week. Decent tablet for media consumption, but overall the hardware is a little mediocre (the display is just a regular VA panel at 60hz and there's only 4GB of RAM).

The tablet supports 45 watt fast charging, but please note the included charger is only 15 watts. I never unwrapped mine.

Sound quality is decent — there are two side firing loudspeakers on the narrow sides of the tablet so there's decent stereo seperation.
Will also be getting Android 12 update pretty soon. Samsung is generally pretty good with software updates.

If you don't need an SD card slot (or the included Galaxy S-Pen), the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 would be a cheaper alternative — it's around $500 AUD (with GST) but you may have to import it from Aliexpress. The base model has 128GB internal storage with 6GB of RAM, and the display is also higher end (IPS, 120hz).

There's also the $550 AUD Lenovo Tab P11 Pro, also called the Xiaoxin Tab Pro in the Chinese market. It has an even faster processor and an OLED display. The biggest downside is Lenovo is not great at providing software updates. Plus some other software related issues

    • yes, I looked at the Lenovo ones, but they seem to have some issues. I just checked the screen specs for the s7FE and looks like this is actually a downgrade from the S2, apart from the refresh rate I think lol….great. The processor seems to be an improvement though. Yes, I had read about the included charger….we have a 20w at the very least here anyway. If the Xiaomi was a lot cheaper I might consider, but warranty fixes if any issues might be a hassle
Think I might give this deal a miss then, doesn't seem worth the money for the small upgrade in speed and downgrade in screen resolution.

    • How's the app ecosystem for Android tablets now, are they still mostly zoomed in mobile apps?
