  Sounds like there is a hidden cost with Street Fighter V because you will need to buy the Upgrade Kit and\or Character Pass so it is up to date with what everyone else is playing with. Though even that seems a little obfuscated and it's not really clear which kit or passes you really need.

          @Sidog: fwiw it's easy to grind points to buy 4 or 5 chars, gets slower after that

  Games are so dumb nowadays. You buy a game and have to earn the right to use characters. How did we end up in this position? It’s like they’re paying us- but not.

    Sorry to burst your bubble - but its not really just a "nowadays thing". Back in the good-old-days, you had to buy a whole new game to get new characters (Street Fighter 2 vs Super Street Fighter 2 on Sega Mega Drive) or buy after release date content via expansion packs (Age of Empires on PC etc). It's hardly ever been free to get huge content updates for nothing after the fact.

    In this case they also the majority of the expansion packs on sale too. For $10 you could buy the original 2016 game content, but then could also buy the other content too at discounted prices/bundles. It's like going into EB Games 15 years ago, buying the original version of Age of Empires 2 or Starcraft sitting on the shelf and then complaining they won't give you all the expansion packs also sitting on the shelf for free.

    In my opinion, Capcom have done a pretty good job of long term support for this game and providing reasonably priced updates rather than churning out a full new game at $80+ every year (think NHL/NFL/FIFA).

    FYI, with this sale, the Champion Edition was also on sale for ~$25 - I bought that. That included all the first 40 characters from expansion packs. Only the last 5 characters that recently came out were not included, which I earn for free after playing for a couple of days (which is still paying for it with my time - but its time I would have spent on the game anyway). I was a cheapskate and didn't want to pay for the $50 version that included all characters as I knew I could get those last 5 for free easy.
