I think the Christmas price $49 is for Lion battery, Oral-B 2000, which is better. This one is Ni-mh battery.

    • never buy the old oral b. charging is like whole day

These are pretty much almost always under $50 on Amazon.

Get the 2000 instead when on sale, a much better toothbrush and sometimes under $50

Better to buy Oral B Smart 5000 Dual Handle Electric Toothbrush if you have Costco membership.

    • I agree. Have one of these and they are excellent and couldn't ask more from a toothbrush.

  • Been using this toothbrush for about 2 and a half years. Battery has just started to go on it.

  • What do the more expensive toothbrushes actually do vs the cheaper ones? I have an older Oral B model, i think it cost me $19, and i can't really fathom what else it could be doing that would make a $50 (or even $200) toothbrush worthwhile. A better battery would certainly be appreciated, but its not really worth $30 to me, i just charge it every 3-4 days

    • 2 minutes alarm, pressure sensor, better battery I think. Some expert can add other things?

      • Mine does 2min alarm.

Not sure what a pressure sensor would do tbh, stop you from grinding off all your enamel? Haha

        • Monitors if your brushing into your teeth/gums too hard. My Sonicare does this.

        • We started with $20 ones 5 years ago. Then bought a $50 (Oral B 2000) 2 years ago. Now there's no more $20 in my house anymore.
          1. Less charge frequency: once (or less) per month vs once ever few days. When we are on holidays, we can just take 2 handles for of us, instead of 4.
          2. Less replacements: the $20 ones' batteries are barely holding charge after 2 years. The $50 is still very strong after 2 years (I guess it will turn out cheaper that the $20)
          3. The o oscillation speed is stable for almost three whole life of each charge, not strong in the first day, and then gradually weaker

"jellykingdom" might sound funny, but when I went to the dentist for my tooth pain

(thought I needed a filling), was told I have been brushing my teeth too hard causing exposed

nerves and hence pain (also maybe using too abrasive tooth paste and/or going too hard u

          sing the floss head haha).

@ozhunter68: Yes, brushing too hard is a big issue. It can cause your gums to receded too.

    • Lion battery

I also thought this, and had a $20 one. It was getting slower and weaker, and also needed charging every 2nd use.

Bought the 2000 before Christmas - it's amazing! Much faster oscillation, pressure sensor, 30 second incremental timer (focus on 1/4 of teeth at a time) and also amazing battery life - charge once every few weeks if that.

I used to think the same until I went from the $20 base model to a 2000 series for around $50 on sale. The oscillation speed is the biggest improvement. It's effectively going twice as fast as the $20 and to me gives a more thorough clean without applying much pressure at all, which is important for the gums.

Basically if you pay the $30-odd more, you get a brush that gives twice the clean for more than twice as long and to me that value equation stands.

I have this toothbrush and wouldn't recommend it due to the battery. For those familiar with electronics the battery replacement looks easy enough, however it must be replaced with another Ni-Mh battery.

  • Pro-2000 (and up) definitely gives a better clean and is more powerful than this. Still, it's better than the cheapo Vitality models.

  • Bought the Pro 2000 from shaver shop on a Black Friday sale for $49.

Holds charge for the month. and has the simple needed features such as pressure and zone timer without all the Bluetooth Jargon so although this 700 nearly looks the same the Lithium Battery is handy to have.

Only started using this but it certainly cleans the tea stains off the teeth and keeps teeth white when used daily and correctly.
