Ego Excessive Oil Leaking from Chain Saw Bar and Chain

I have a Ego multi tool pole saw attachment bought a year ago.
Since the first time used, machine oils leaking dripping to the garage floor and I had to put paper towels around the pole to prevent dripping, but the towels got wet totally. I normally store the saw upright on a wall hung so I understand the residue oil would spill but the amount of oils spill is beyond my tolerance.

I got it serviced the other day and I understand that they changed the oil tank, but the leaking still happens each time.

Is this normal to have excessive (to me it is) oil leaks from electric saw?

BTW, Ego service wasn't great compared to other product.

Did you think to tell them about this problem? If you did, and it's still happening, did you think to follow up, and telly them it's not fixed?

  • Are you using the correct chain oil? It makes a big difference.

I've had dealings with Ego's Service department and cannot fault them.

They normally answer emails the same day and are quick to repair and return items fixed under warranty.

Their response was to log a new warranty job and drop it off the nearest contractor shop for repair.
So I need to drive to drop it off and collect again for the same issue they didn't fix.

That's what happens sometimes. Tell them to keep it until it's fixed. If they can't, call ego and tell them you want a new one.

    • How rude!
They sent a priority helicopter to my place to pick up and drop off mine under warranty

      • I don't mind driving. Just thought if it was bought at Bunnings and I could get a replacement on spot.

  • They gave me a Return Postage number and I just dropped the item off at the local PO, free postage.

A courier delivered the new replacement item a couple of weeks later.

    • They are what I am dealing with and asked me to drop off.

  • I find mine (only a month old) leaks a little, I just store it flat with the oil tank on the bottom side so that it can't leak. It's nothing in comparison to my Ryobi electric chainsaw, that pretty much empties itself over the course of a few days.

  • Username checks out.

I believe this just goes with the territory. Every Husqvarna 2 stroke chainsaw I have had leaks bar oil.

If I'm using it again soon I just store it so the fill hole is at the lowest point. If it's out of season and not using it I drain the bar oil and generally service / deep clean at the same time for storage.

It’s very simple, drain the oil when you store it. I do this for my EGO chainsaw. It’s not hard, ads a whole 30-60 seconds to the routine.

Leaking chain bar oil is extremely common for all saws, it’s an open oil feeder.

  • They all leak from my experience. Empty it each time.
