Australian Subaru Outback Touring secret passcode feature included?

Hi all

I've put an order in for a Subaru Outback Touring last week and I have been going through YouTube channels to learn more about this car as I await my delivery. I noticed that some features of the USA version will not be available here in Australia. This include Skylink function and programming gate and garage door remotes to the remote buttons underneath the rear view mirror.

I've also found a YouTube video explaining some features of the USA subaru outback touring in the link below…

https://youtu.be/e6ndEhx52FE

In the 4:20 mark of this video, it is demonstrated how the subaru outback has a hidden feature that enables you to get inside the car without the key fob using a secret pass code sequence using a button hidden behind the tailgate.

Does this also applies in the Australian models of the Outback touring or is this another thing only availablein the USA models.

Tks

  • Ask the dealer?

But considering one is made in Aus, and the other in Japan, I'm gonna say no, the feature won't be in yours

Be careful watching vids about cars produced in other countries

    • I actually recall watching a CarAdvice Looks like it was Carsguide as commented below video on the previous Gen Outback here in Aus and the feature was included. I think it's a standard but hidden feature on all keyless Subarus but I haven't bothered checking because I really don't like the idea of locking my keys inside the car on purpose

Did you mean USA and the other in Japan?

    Why not buy the WRX?

  • a hidden feature that enables you to get inside the car without the key fob using a secret pass code sequence using a button hidden behind the tailgate

    Why would you want that?

Lol would look like you were giving the car a good fingering 😂

      • GolD!!!!!!!!!!!!

like the bloke in USA that married his VW beetle and tried making babies with it.

Sounds perfect for the beach, assuming it's reliable :)

2020 Subaru Forester has this feature.

It's intended for when at the beach or camping or whatever, you can leave the key inside the car and the lock it using the code.

However I've never been game enough to actually use it in real life as I didn't want to be stranded away from home with the key locked inside the car.

    • Just bring a spare key

I remember seeing it in a review, found it from CarsGuide: https://youtu.be/P6bFRBLFDqU?t=309

      • Thank you CheapandUsed. This is good to know. Although this is a previous model outback, I gather this feature would also exist in the current model. My dealer was not able to confirm if this feature will be in the new model when I receive it in April/May. I guess time will tell. Let's hope it will still exist in the 2022 model.

  • Sounds like a question for a Subaru or outback forum.

Yes it has, and yes it works like a charm. Great when going to the beach.

The manual describes how to set up and use - it is a bit fiddly to use though.

All SUVs should have a feature where they drive themselves to the wreckers

What does that have to do with a Subaru outback…which is more a station wagon.
