Anyone else hada problem with a leak from the cap seal Yellow Plastic Willow 20L Diesel Fuel Can Jerry? On the initial occurance of it leaking i thought i had not screwed it down hard enough so used a rag & both hands the second time. All to no avail! It leaked again. After getting caught in the proquip recall a few years back I had underfilled this one.
Without any fuel in the can. The staff cannot place the item outside and they will have to deal with the smell. Scum bags would otherwise pick it up outside and try to return it somewhere else.
Sounds like the 'O' ring gasket is damaged or has crap under it.
Try removing the gasket, and cleaning/inspecting/replacing it.

Supercheap has warranted everything I bought there.
I've had no problems with mine - had it for a couple of years - slight plastic dis-coloration is all.
Just make sure you haven't cross threaded it and the rubber gasket is in good nick.
Then take it back for a refund or exchange.
