Quality Fabric Lounge/Sofa Stores

After years of hand me downs we're now looking at buying two new sofas, one for the living room and one for the media room.
We've been tossing up the below but after seeing a few reviews on their long term quality I figured I'd check in with the Ozbargain team to get their reviews & recommendations on both these or alternate lounges & the companies selling them.

Living Room:
Lounge Lovers Hampton
Domayne Blaze
Harvey Norman Eleanor

Media Room:
Lounge Lovers Long Beach
Harvey Norman Manhattan

Ideally we after something that looks and feels good and most importantly is constructed to stay that way for more than a year.
Fabric is our go to as we have cats =)

  • Go search for these on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree - you'll see how they age in the real world.

As an example, King Sofas always look like they're in very good condition (given they are expensive, they tend to be in more affluent households / older (if any) kids) except the back cushions get frumpy. No doubt they're still comfortable, but you can it ages.

    • Haha great minds, but I've been searching with no real luck unfortunately.
Either nothing online or useless photos.

Are the cats allowed on the lounge? If so, consider getting a heavy duty fabric to better withstand any pulled threads from kneading bread ;)

Another consideration is the warranty period and ease of claiming together with after sales customer service. Read through the online reviews to get an idea of this and also ask the sales representative instore. Our previous leather lounge from Nick Scali started coming apart at one of the seams on an arm rest. I called the store to obtain their repair service contact details and even though it was well out of warranty by approx. 2+years, they kindly offered to repair it free of charge.

"Are the cats allowed on the lounge?"

Ummm, like they ask or care of the hooman's preference?

As you say this, my cat grumbled and took her place on the couch. 😂

lol .. yes, very true for many pampered pets.

Although, my in-laws have a spoilt floofster who has been trained by my MIL to not even dare think about touching the lounge furniture however she's allowed on the lounge in their sunroom.

    • Cats are allowed to sit, lay, sleep. Not allowed to claw, and tend not to "knead" but you know how they get excited and leap off - that they do a lot. Playful & cute but good god it makes buying nice stuff hard!

  • What is your budget?

    • Probably up to $4.5k but prefer around the $3k mark (each)

I bought a Molmic through Berkowitz.

Made in Melbourne. Yes it took its sweet ass time but boy oh boy woweee was it worth it!!

    • Will check it out, thank you!

  • I never buy from HN - grossly overpriced.

I purchased my latest lounge from an auction house. It's about 120 years old, give or take. Cost me around $120.

I'd stick with Australian made and try buying straight from the manufacturer. They're more likely to have a better warranty, last longer and have better resale value.

    • Any suggestions on manufacturer names to google?

I agreed with the Berkowitz suggestion especially considering the style you're after.

  • I recommend the Hampton in both rooms. The Long Beach is the Hampton with no legs. Makes it a bit of a workout to get up out of. I have had a Hampton lounge for over three years and it still has the new lounge smell. I haven't had to wash it yet but I did give it a coat of scotchgard when it was new. Super soft, and feels like a comfy bed. My family and friends love it too. I test sat in a load of lounges before going with a Hampton.

    • Have you found the pillows have collapsed at all? I found a fair few reviews saying they needed consistent plumping or they look crap…

The pillows squish like a squishy toy so you can keep them even by sitting in different spots on the lounge i.e. don't sit on the same end every day. I fluff up the seat every half year or so. The back cushions go into a banana shape after a month or so. I flip those upside down and/or back to front to even them out. Minimal maintenance, takes 2 minutes and worth it as they are so soft being 50% feather.
