Looking for Hiking Boots in 4E

Is it impossible to buy Wide Fitting hiking shoes in this country?
Everywhere I look everything is in a standard fitting, or when I do find something in a Wide it just says "Wide Fitting" which is unhelpful as there is a big difference in comfort between 2E, 4E and 6E which are common wide fittings.

I've exhausted all of the Google and Bing searches that I could do to find something in 4E (Yes, I was so desperate as to try Bing). Can anyone offer a store that sells hiking boots / sneakers with 4E fittings please? Thanks!

  • try amazon
i searched and you can tick wide or extra wide
not sure of the brands and price (everything seemed over 200 bucks!)

    • Yeah, that's the problem I encountered.

What is wide and extra wide? Their sizing guides were about as useless as Scomo's Energy policy….

      • as useless as Scomo's Energy policy….

        Have you read it through?

        Which part is useless?

All the part between “Dear nation” and “lots of love, Scomo.”

Hi mate, I have the same issue. I have found that Merrell's MOAB has a wider fit.
    https://www.merrellaustralia.com.au/products/moab-2-mid-gtx-…
The saloman also have a wider fit.
    https://salomon.com.au/collections/mens?_=pf&pf_opt_size=8.5…

I would suggest trying them on before buying as well. The other thing would be going to some really speciality stores to see what they have. For me Macpac and Anaconda didn't really have anything that was wide enough, but in Melbourne I went to backpacking light and Bogong Equipment and Bogong equipment were able to find we some shoes that had a wider build.

Be ready to pay $$$ for it though.

    • Thanks Lolz, I'll give the MOAB a go.

I wear a 2E / 4E and the Merrell MOAB mid (workboot) is a god send. Tried a lot of others out there

    • Just chatted with the staff at Merrell, they said there should be a restock some time in Feb and that they may have 4E! Woo Hoo!

running warehouse you can put 4E in the width on the shoe finder:

    https://www.runningwarehouse.com.au/searchshoe.html?type=men…

no hiking shoes though - just runners.

    • Yeah, I need something with a lot more grip.
      Thanks anyway DJR.

    Bing searches

    So you're the one

  • From my experience if shoes are saying it is wide fit without 'extra' then its 2E. If they say extra wide then 4E. I've never seen a 6E listing but to be fair I've never looked.

When I was growing up I was able to get 4E from athlete's foot, rebel etc. Now days I have to go to outlets. Last purchase was from Birkenhead point outlet: https://www.birkenheadpoint.com.au/stores/asics#/profile?loc…

Maybe be helpful if you're a Sydney-sider. Either way its good to know what branding and sizing suits as now days online shopping is the way to go.

Edit: I can't remember what I've done with hiking shoes. Most of the boot brands I've had have been quite wide and not been an issue.

  • I wear 4E too;

I have New Balance trail shoes and Salomon hiking cleats. As for boots, they're not hiking, but I wear Mongrel boots to work, which are quite grippy, albeit bulky.

Edit: For stores, Wildfire Sports & Trek is where I got the Salomon after trying on shoes for half an hour. Mongrel I got from Totally Workwear, and the New Balance I got online.

  • Try https://meindl.com.au/

Meindl have the widest fitting boots/shoes you’ll find. They’re great.

Wide fittings, but $699 a pair???

Sorry, but I find that price about as difficult to swallow as the boots.

      Thanks though.

  • Keen boots are normally wider. I would suggest going and trying them on. Mountain Designs or even Anaconda would be my suggestion.

  • Happy to find this thread - in the same situation as I take 4e. I find Keen's used to be wider in years past but are now narrow. I tend to trawl comments in Amazon looking for useful ones about peoples experiences. Was looking at Columbia Newton Ridge Plus II in wide.

My other issue is decent skate shoes - where the hell do you find decent width ones of them?
