Modern AV Receivers already have most (all ?) of this functionality inbuilt - is there some specific use case for a dedicated client like this ?

    • +4

The product is designed for someone looking for higher resolution / higher-quality streaming than what is provided in their AV Receiver or to add to their Hifi system.

The NODE also decodes MQA tracks from Tidal, MQA is Master Quality Authenticated and is Tidals highest quality of audio streaming.

It's not a product for everyone but for those who know what it is and who cares about sound quality with streaming then it is a very highly regarded product.

      • Thanks for the explanation 👍

Not many AV receivers are Roon ready or will do hi res as noted by OP. But a cheaper alternative to the Bluesound Node would be to build a Raspberry Pi network streamer with a DAC HAT

      • The Yamaha WXA/C-50 is also a viable alternative at almost half the price

Bluesound is an alternative to Sonos, HEOS, Yamaha's MusicCast, Bowers & Wilkins Formation, that sort of thing. In a basic sense, they all do the same kinds of things: allow app control and streaming in a single zone or multiple areas around a home. MusicCast and HEOS are the only two built into AV receivers at the moment, and if you wanted Sonos or Formation (or Bluesound) then you'd need a streamer (like this one, or a Sonos Port, etc) plugged into a spare audio input on that AV receiver.

But each of these options does it slightly (or very) differently, and Bluesound is generally chosen by the audiophile crowd. If you're running higher-end speakers, amplifiers, listen to high-resolution streaming formats, love Tidal's MQA recordings, that sort of thing, then this is the sort of thing you'd buy. If none of that matches you, then this isn't the product for you.

Unlike most of the other ones, you can also run up to 64 Bluesound players/streamers/speakers, all streaming 24bit hi-res audio simultaneously.

And if you've got a need for 64 zones of audio in your house, what on earth are you doing on OzBargain?

Any similar code for the Powernode?
    Thanks

Reach out on our website Livechat (or give us a call) and we'll see what we can do for you.

    • I'd also be interested in seeing a better deal on Powernode than I have to date (and in stock).

      • We have both Black and White Powernodes in stock, reach out via website Livechat (or give us a call) and we'll see what we can do for you.

        • Would rather see a tasty deal posted here than deal with Live Chat. Thanks anyway.
