Is It Worth Buying Vitamix 3500i?

It is 1495 via kitchen warehouse.
I don't want to buy from marketplace. Any suggestion on how I can get discounted price for this? Is it worth the hype?
I want to gift this to my partner.

  • A quick Google shows that David Jones has the Vitamix Ascent 3500i for $1,199.00

A bit of shopping around and you should be able to beat that price.

    • I wanted to get a set. Smoothie jar and small jar. If not I will end up buying this one.

I paid $699 when this deal came out
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/523939

It was a discontinued colour so I doubt that'll ever be repeated.

I had a 2500 before this which I paid $895. Thought that was a good deal at the time

Before that I had the Breville boss blender and to be honest they're equally as good as each other. They have different strengths but the difference is so small that I tell most people to just get the Breville. It will achieve what the Vitamix does with an extra 10% effort which is no more than 10 seconds of extra blending in the real world.

    • Missed it. Real good deal.

I have a couple of vitamixs (one at home, one at the office) but they are classic models with no smarts. Personally the smarts are way overpriced and gimmicky, and just another thing to break. The motor power ratings on the smart models are also the same as the classic ones. Of course get what you want, (maybe it better suits your decor or something? or better impress your partner?) but I'd think hard what the extra multiple hundreds of dollars get you.

  • Isnt it just a fancy blender?

      High powered*

That power does let you do some pretty special things that most blenders can't.

Silky smooth almond butter (better than anything I've ever found in a store)
Homogenous smoothies (or smoothie bowls) that don't have chunks of frozen fruit, whole seeds or large specks of green leaves
Silky textured purees, soups and dips
Nut milks with significantly better results than any other method

Those are the key reasons you want something high powered over a ninja/bullet or anything with an rrp less than $600 really

      • So it is worth the hype!
Checked out Costco and no deal there.

it definitely can do some things that most other blenders cant do, but there are some exceptions.

As i mentioned in my other comment, i've also had a Breville The Boss blender which RRP for $700 and i got it for about $350. It's a great blender with equal specs, capability, and warranty. For a third of the price. if you dont mind blending for an extra 5 or 10 seconds to get the same results (only some of the time) then the value for money is far greater with the Breville.

I used to work in the smoothie business and use my blender every day so can easily justify the extra spend on a vitamix but whenever someone i know asks what to buy, i always refer them to the Breville The Boss.

I have the old school Vitamix 5200 (not computer tech to fail) and it's been a work horse. I use it twice a day crunching large ice and everything else I throw at it. Never skipped a beat.

These are the diamond standard, no other blender comes close. If in doubt check the "vitamix vs…" videos online. I've had cheapies including brevlle before this, they're all junk.

It costs more because we're all used to chinese junk designed to be thrown out after 1-2 years. Many Vitamix blenders are still running after 20 years. Mines about 15 years old now. So you need to ask yourself if you can stomach the high price vs buying cheap throw aways over a 10-20 year period.

    • Great.Any deals you recommend?

    • Yeah I have a Vitamix 5000 that's still working as new. It was really expensive when I got it. Probably not worth the money if it's just for smoothies. We use it for whole food recipes.

      • Yes we do make smoothies, nut milks, nut butters etc

I went with a Froothie Optimum blender, still goin strong after 10 years. Fraction of the price and apparently more powerful than vitamix, also has lifetime warranty option. Can blend frozen fruit smoothies, nut butters etc.

    • Never heard/read about this. Thanks I will check it out. It doesn't compare with 3500i?

      • They have another higher model where they published a comparison with the vitamix 3500i. Link here

    • I forgot about them, aussie brand I believe. I've heard they can give the Vitamix a run for their money but I'm skeptical they're better. Happy to be wrong however. Would be good to see some comparison vids between the two. Even if not quite as good, the saving might make it the better deal.

    • I’ve got the same running for about 7 years, haven’t even changed the blades, it’s a beast. Missus accidentally put the jug in the dishwasher which ruined the bearings but they replaced it under warranty

  • I also just purchased the froothie 9200a. I believe just shy of $400+$110 for lifetime warranty

Haven't recieved mine yet. Expecting delivery this week but won't be using it til we move to our next home next month

    • Let me know how is it.
I will most likely go for 3500i but if anything goes wrong this could be my 2nd choice

  • They aren't cheap but the best
