Going Back to The Gym during covid19

Just wondering how people are coping with their fitness regime/goals during the current stage of covid19? Ask me a year ago before delta and omicron reared their ugly heads and I was there day one of reopening after lockdown 1.0

But come 2022 it's a different scenario … Everyday I hear of someone else I know getting a positive test, I get so many virus alerts on the covid check in app. I live with/am a close contact of healthcare workers and none of them are returning to the gym. I have been sporadically in 2022 but it's pretty much a ghost town on each visit and I'm thinking if I should just put the membership on hold temporarily but the government seems determined to keep things open.

I go later in the evening which is when I prefer the gym anyway as there's less people. In VIC I sense no one cares about wiping down equipment which is gross.

    • second this. I go later in the evening too. I have my mask on. Staff/PTs/instructors are all masked. Funnily, the fitter ones at my gym seem to have their masks on too, but it's 50-50 overall. Thankfully, most are observed to wipe down equipment after use. Did notice an unmasked bloke blowing his nose and expelling some mucus on the floor on his way out of the toilet.

Not wiping down isn't just exclusive to VIC.

Also, whenever I go late at night, there's often a chance that the wipes have already been used up at my local FF.

    • This is a good idea to go later in the evening. Normally I go during the day but haven't been for a while now. What time in the evening do you find it gets quiet?

Yeah i go around 830-900pm, but i don't wear a mask. Ends up ruining the mask with sweat and i felt like I was going to pass out the one time i used it

Got a rower, spin bike and treadmill. No longer need the gym.

    • I'd say a rower, jump rope, kettlebell and combine with calisthenics will cover general fitness but depends on exact goals..

      • I only do cardio at the gym it was treadmill, elliptical and the bike. Treadmill for bad weather days otherwise its outdoor running approximately 30-40km a week. Looking to add some resistance bands to expand workout.

  • I just work out at home.

You said you get a lot of alerts. Please consider sharing some of them on https://covertpirates.com

    • Whats that?

      • It's a website for finding and reporting exposure sites. Not sure if it applies to you, but some states have stopped reporting them.

no Sydney sites were reported on that site I just checked but I'm getting too many right now and they don't specify the time a positive case was there either.

It's great you can be motivated to exercise at home! I only go to the gym because I am paying lol

  • I've always gone late night (10/11pm) and now it seems everyone thinks it's the best time to go due to COVID with many getting mad about it. Might have to push to 12am now.

Tbh I only started going back because I am with Fitness First and $43 a F/N is too much to waste :/ I'm worried though because I have received several notifications from service NSW about positive cases ;_; and the staff never check if people are checking in or wiping down equipment. Weird thing is, the 30k plus cases a day doesn't seem to have deterred anyone at my gym o.o So I am just doing express workouts just because I am paying basically :(
