$1 or First Year Free Domains from VentraIP

Hi everyone,

So I've been a supportive customer of VentraIP, having moved my services over from Zuver and Crazy Domains, and recently enjoyed their promos on $1 or free domain registrations.

However, of late one of the domains have reached their expiry, and I was dismayed that VentraIP, had renewed my serviced automatically, and charged $75 to my card, without any forewarning or notice. I then realised they had auto-renew turned on as default for my services/domains. I've since deleted all my cards on their file.

Their Accounts and Billing department are refusing to cancel the transaction and issue a refund.

Now I see that all these $1 promos were a trap to get unsuspecting people to register a domain, unwittingly leave the default setting as auto-renew, and slug customers with a renewal fee the next year.

Has anyone had such experiences before and what have you done?

    Read the T&Cs when I first signed up :)

    FWIW today I found out that Quantumcore.com.au has .au domains <$10aud/yr so switching my domains across to them.

      $9.20 per year. That's a notable discount.

      Thanks for the heads-up. Does it mean that when you transfer a domain to another provider, that the subscription paid to the existing provider is lost? Does it carry over in terms of validity?

        From memory, the existing expiry date moves across and then just you renew as per normal with the new provider…
