Cheap Waterproof NFC Wearable from a Bricks and Mortar Store

Hiya folks. I'm spending the day at the beach this Saturday and don't want to leave my phone or cash on the sand when I'm in the water.

I've spent the last few hours looking for a smart ring or watch/fitness tracker that is waterproof and can do Google Pay and is cheap that I can buy in person before the weekend but I'm coming up short for answers.

Don't really want to pay more than $50.

Also are smart rings not really a thing anymore? I remember a few years ago them being spruiked a lot for going to the pool/gym/beach/jogging etc but can only see online sellers, no shops that sell them.

    You're a few months off of Westpac Paywear. It was a small chip that you could strap to your watch (in my case a Mi Band) that allowed NFC. Was discontinued a few months ago.

    Not sure if you'll find anything remotely close to what you're after for $50.

      I just lost my card the week before Xmas and they sent me out a new paywear chip and band along with my card.

        Yeah but you signed up before the program got discontinued. Pretty sure if you lose it after May, you won't get a replacement? (Got an e-mail about it, but deleted it as I never used mine)

          Probably right.
          I just threw it in the bin anyway (after destroying the chip) - tremendously wasteful packaging it arrives in.

    You won't find something that performs phone/internet functions for under or even close to 50 bucks. Certainly not in a physical store.

    I'm assuming you mainly just want something for payments, in which case, why not just take your usual bank/credit card? It'll be waterproof, small, light etc. Just stick in in your velcro or zip pocket that pretty much every set of bathers has.

    Can't you just put your stuff in a sealed bag, dig a hole near your towel and put your stuff in there? Or in your shoe like everyone else?

    I vaguely recall Heath Ledger did it in a movie once…no big deal…🤷🏻‍♂️

    Didn't we always have this "problem", but it was with real cash rather than a card.
    No reason why you can't carry your card with you as others have said.
